    Special Offers Discussion

Minimum spend £10 and maximum £50, so my £10.40 one day London travelcard with Network Railcard discount became £9.89 - 11p less than what it was yesterday!

    2024 Fare Revision

Is Hatton to Lapworth still the cheapest gold card season ticket? Looks like it’s now £204 which beats the few other Ryde & Lichfield possibilities of past years.

Cheapest possible fare in the UK...

Does this mean as recently as 2022 (or maybe 2021) there were still some fares available for under a pound? I seem to remember there were a few in the mid-2010s, possibly some of the examples above, but I’m not sure how gradually they increased in price after that.

    RMT strike referendum passed

This also goes for anyone who sees the headline and assumes the imminent strikes from tomorrow are off, which will give them a nasty surprise in the days ahead.

RMT Strike Action Thursday 20th, Saturday 22nd and Saturday 29th July 2023

While I didn't have any plans on the three strike days, I have a rather major trip on Sunday 30th July that has an advance ticket booked from just after 8am at Clapham Junction, operated by South Western Railway. I can (just) get an early morning bus or three to Clapham Junction from where I...

    Luton Airport DART ticketing discussion

My EMT tickets from London St Pancras to Luton Airport next month are £5 advance each way with a railcard discount. If that includes the DART as seems to be the case then that’s a brilliant deal. Wonder if the Airport to Parkway part of it is for any DART service or just for the specific time...

Late LNR service 21/05/2022 from Milton Keynes to Euston after concert

Another report here from someone who attended MCR at Milton Keynes, we went on the Sunday so had already read the troubled Saturday reports, and one of us had to get straight to Gatwick after - via a stopover in London to collect their bag - to board a flight home to Brazil. Have to admit I was...

    2021 fare increases

Thanks, that's fair enough as it was always a nice unofficial bonus. 62 minutes still avoids the annoyance of being a couple of seconds too late if you're in a queue to board.

    2021 fare increases

Has the TFL hopper fare time been reduced? I touched in on a second bus 65 minutes after the first and was charged a second £1.55, even though it's normally 70 minutes. I've seen one tweet suggesting the time has been cut to 62 minutes, but nothing official.

    Special Offers Discussion

£15 London to Edinburgh all through the Fringe Festival, which is a brilliant deal for this time of year even if it is the slower West Coast service. No railcard discounts but still cheaper than most remaining railcard fares for that month.

    Help with historic fares, please.

Web Archive's always been useful for me for this sort of thing: http://web.archive.org/web/20140111061618/http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/fares-2013/28897.aspx shows the 2013 National Rail fares, and...

Up to 55% fare increase on Cotswold line

Has anyone else noticed that FGW have actually decreased some of their advance fares for travel after May 17th? Looking at travel from London to and from Penzance after that date with a 16-25 railcard, fares that were £30.05 (the cheapest Night Riviera advance seated fare that appeared to be...

    On the wrong train

Hopefully they'd take pity. This happened to me once in Rome, when I got hopelessly lost in the huge central station, misheard an announcement and boarded a train to Cassino when I was meant to go to Ciampino - both trains leaving at exactly the same time, to the minute! On the way back an...

    Special Offers Discussion

Much more like it with East Midlands Trains £10 off email received today, including all Railcard discounts and advance fares. I've only gone and paid £1.90 return for a trip up to Nottingham next month!

    Caledonian Sleeper to/from Watford Junction

Looking at visiting a few friends at the Edinburgh Fringe in August and was astonished at the low Caledonian Sleeper seat fares from London. £15.75 each way with my 16-25 railcard - and in the middle of the festival season, which given the high demand is a brilliant deal if perhaps not quite as...

    Special Offers Discussion

So basically completely useless with a railcard, given the 34% discount is going to be bigger than the 20% anyway.

    Favourite LUL Stock?

For sheer nostalgia, probably the 1959 stock. As the likes of the JLE, ticket barriers and Oyster cards transformed the tube in the years surrounding the millennium, the rattling, clunky, wheezing sounds of the '59 stock were one of the last links left to the tube system of my childhood by the...

London Midland to Birmingham - advance ticket question

That's definitely a trip to Euston then! Thanks all, would rather pay the small Oyster price extra than risk a fine.

London Midland to Birmingham - advance ticket question

Thought I'd take advantage of London Midland's sale and get an advance return from London Euston to Birmingham New Street for this Saturday, which with my railcard came to a bargain £6.70. I live in North West London and I've noticed that not only do both trains call at Watford Junction, but...

    BITE card

In this case it was them actually buying their own food, in seperate transactions, but I'd still show them my Bite card and it counted for everyone as long as they were in the same party. As said, it made me a popular person :p I tried the same with someone at one of the places in London...
