Advice for a 15 year hoping to become a conductor or driver

Get your driving license at 17, become a bus driver at 18 (every company is always looking for drivers and in my experience will hire everyone except the very worst candidates). By the time you are 21 for mainline driving you’ll have 3 years safety critical experience under your belt. There are...

    Driver Medical

You’ll be fine. I am also 5,7 and stocky. They might say you need to lose some weight and that will be it. Honestly they won’t reject your application because your bmi is 35. Nothing to worry about.

    Driver Medical

Nothing to worry about. Had my medical recently and had a bmi of 35. Just said lose weight and come back in 2 months to see results. Lost 1 stone and got an extra day off driving and half my shift covered the day before If you’re just joining they won’t turn you away if your bmi is 35 unless...

    Trainee Drivers

As already said, don't bother. You can find all the information you need on this forum for free. The ToC you apply for will also send you all the practice material you will need for the assessments should you pass the initial application and phone interview.

    Train Driving vs Bus Driving

As a bus driver for 6.5 years I can say it's not an easy job. Moving the bus is easy, but you constantly have to drive for other people on the roads as a large proportion of drivers have absolutely no idea that is going on around them. You also have to deal with clowns on the bus. The vast...

    New GWR Trainee Driver Positions

Unless you haven't already had your MMI that would be the next stage. Usually GWR do the MMI before the DMI although it's not unheard of for them to do it the other way around. If you've already done both the MMI and DMI then I don't know what it would be.

    GBT question

As far as I am aware you are marked up to the last mark you have made. So if you mark the very first group on a line and nothing else, you won't be marked past that point. I'm not an examiner though so this could be wrong, but it seems the most logical as they will not know how far along the...

    New GWR Trainee Driver Positions

Thanks :) that was for Reading. They said there were courses running in July and October, but they are both full. I don't know what is happening after that or with any other depot. Fingers crossed though because it can just go from 0-100 in a couple of days like what happend to me!

    New GWR Trainee Driver Positions

Not long after my last post I got invited to an MMI which I had on 17th May. When I got there they said I would be doing the DMI the same day if I passed the MMI! That was a shock lol but I think it worked in my favour as I was feeling confident after the MMI. I passed both and I've had my...

    New GWR Trainee Driver Positions

Unfortunately that is exactly what happens. The application process can take a very long time e.g. I applied in April 2016 for Reading depot, had a telephone interview in May 2016, stage 1 assessments in November 2016 and I'm still on hold for stage 2  Should I pass stage 2 I'll also have...

LU Night Tube Train Operator - Part Time

I'm 27. From 17-21 I was a part time cleaner whilst in full time education and I've spent the last 6 years as a full time bus driver.

LU Night Tube Train Operator - Part Time

I didn't think I did very well but interviews have always been my weak point. I did a lot of preparation and I had good answers to various possible questions. I also failed at the same point last year and it's very difficult to improve when feedback is not given. I felt I did a lot better the...

Everyone gets asked sorry :p I didn't get an opportunity to ask any of my questions at the end though.

    New GWR Trainee Driver Positions

I had an email yesterday saying that they are looking to put more people into the talent pool at reading soon. They didn't give any dates though.

    WAFV (vigilance) Test Training System

I didn't use any outside source other than the examples provided by the toc to practise this test. I found it very simple. I honestly couldn't justify spending £15 for extra practise material. You will be fine if you just spend the time to complete the material sent to you a few times.

Thanks. I'm still waiting for stage 2 of the assessment centre (MMI). Got a long way to go before I even think about getting on a course :p
