Level Crossings between Retford and Newark

Hi. There was a leaflet handed out to JoPublic a few years ago about the level crossing closures between Grantham and Peterborough (Greatford, Tallington, Lolham, Maxey Road, Helpston and Woodcroft). It was one of those NR feasability study pamphlets. Ive still got my copy of it floating...

Why are trainspotters so unfriendly ?

Hi. Near quote coming up... "What is the deal with trainspotters? I saw 15 of them losers today!... but my record is 31" Stewart Francis - Canadian comedian NOTE: Im a trainspotter and i find this funny.:D

Why are trainspotters so unfriendly ?

Hi. Ive got some great shots where a driver has waved at me. One of my faves was taken at Tallington footbridge where a driver of a HST clearly saw me taking the pic. Another was taken on a visit to Wrawby Jn SB where a driver of a Lincoln freight purposely kept waving til i gave him the...

    Favourite Station to Trainspot?

Hi. If i said what im about to say 2 years ago, you wud have me committed... Spalding... and surrounding area. If freights youre thing, we now have at least 8 regular freight workings on most weekdays. Tugged by GBRf, DB and Freightliner. Occasionally DRS and Colas. 2 more...

Footage of driver stuck inside Level Crossing Barrier

Hi. If we are talking facts then, heres one... You could put fencing around the whole rail network, and if someone wants to get onto the track badly enough, they will. The recent St. Neots Flying Scotsman efforts will prove that. Im now waiting for someone to say there wasnt adequete fencing...

Footage of driver stuck inside Level Crossing Barrier

Hi. Ok, if say electrification is involved, if the fence was good enough in the first place, why isnt it now? I must just say at this point, i am NOT trying to glamourise death on the railways in any sense whatsoever. It is a tragedy when anyone dies through accident or misadventure. My...

Footage of driver stuck inside Level Crossing Barrier

Hi. Im not reffering to the nanny state insisting that we need fencing everywhere. How many trainspotters reading this have stood against a perfectly good 4ft fence against a railway or on a perfectly good low level bridge only to find next time they return, the fence is a 9ft palaside fence...

Footage of driver stuck inside Level Crossing Barrier

Hi. Yeah, theyre safer, but Network Rail owns more fencing than rails!

Footage of driver stuck inside Level Crossing Barrier

Hi. What amazes me is the nanny state attitude in this country. In many foreign countries, including EU countries, their level crossings are basically our AHBs but without the endless fencing, cattle grid, cameras etc. It seems to me, other countries attitude is "if you get hit by a train...

    Favourite Station to Trainspot?

Hi. Totally agree with Cheddington. Its in the middle of nowhere, plenty of platforms to choose from and its on opentrain times! Long Buckby near Northampton is another fave of mine. Northampton station as well but can be more crowded. Im not really a station dweller but i do like...

    "Happy Valley"

Hi. Yeah... what the above post said! Other to add that non 'anoraks' like us watching the programme would just assume those 2 engineering trains were run of the mill everyday trains. I wonder how much NR got paid for that? You can guarantee that behind the cameras there was about 500 hi visi...

Level crossing incident in Lincoln being investigated

Hi. Im not gonna name names, but i know someone who would press the lower button and then stop it 3 secs later when cars were blocking the crossing. He or she would do this 30 seconds before the proper time to lower the barriers so as not to delay trains!

Level crossing incident in Lincoln being investigated

Hi. Ive read all the posts on this subject thus far. Ive seen the full length video. I agree with some and disagree with some comments on this. Network Rail or the car driver. In this day and age, I think we all know who will get in trouble for this dont we?

Any new services planned North of Corby along the Harringworth Viaduct?

Hi. Ive just checked out Realtime trains for freight today at Harrowden Jn, a trainspotters haven, and theres lots of 'runs as required' between 8am and 13.00pm. As far as i can see, theres less than 5 that will definately run. Not exactly busy in my eyes! Im sure there may be more freight...

Any new services planned North of Corby along the Harringworth Viaduct?

Hi. There was work at Manton Jn and indeed all the way from Peterborough to Syston a few years ago. That was all for more freight to use the route. Theres only been a handful of extra freights added since then. As far as i can see, theres not much freight on the MML at the best of times...

Disused Signal boxes which are still standing?

Hi. First post in ages... Littleworth SB is the only box still standing on the joint line that doesnt serve a purpose. The remaining boxes are either listed or, like Sleaford North, have electrical supplies from them feeding the level crossing. I would love to buy Littleworth.

Unused infrastructure and other railway equipment

Hi. I can tell you little bit about Eastfield, seeing as i know people in the know... Most of the roads are out of use. The 'abandoned' sidings have mostly disused wagons in them. The wagons were formally abandoned closer towards Peterborough station in Westwood sidings, until... the rumour...

East Lincolnshire Railway Exibitition Oct 2015

Hi. Sorry if this is already mentioned, but I just wanna mentioned about the East Lincs Railway exibition currently on. It takes place in Alford near Louth and it has several items from the said railway that closed exactly 45 years ago. It runs til the end of October at the Alford Manor House...

AGA old fashioned station clocks/destination screens

Hi. If it aint broke... dont fix it! Its like the red road signals on level crossings. I think many were changed to LEDs for the sake of it. I could understand it if they were life expired. Im sure NR would argue that the bulbs seldom fail. Ive reported several failed ones tho, usually at AHBs.
