Last two trains cancelled tonight from Gatwick to Brighton

When I saw that the two final trains of the day were showing as cancelled (but before I had seen the possible rail replacement bus), I bought the National Express tickets as I didn't want to be stuck at Gatwick for hour or face a hugely expensive taxi fare. I had little faith that the rail...

Last two trains cancelled tonight from Gatwick to Brighton

Yep, plus I've got a checked-in bag, plus I've got to get from the North Terminal to the train station at the South Terminal. Fingers crossed! 1688073277 Cripes. Did you manage to get them to refund you for a taxi in your situation?

Last two trains cancelled tonight from Gatwick to Brighton

Yes, if I catch it, which seems doubtful currently! (Although that is showing currently as 21 minutes late, which, if it runs all the way to Brighton, would be preferable to the dreaded bus. And I might have a chance of catching it).

Ah, thank you. Didn't think to click on that. The fabled Rail Replacement Bus it is, then.

Last two trains cancelled tonight from Gatwick to Brighton

My flight into Gatwick tonight is delayed by an hour and the last two trains to Brighton are showing as cancelled: dep -- arr 00:49 -- 01:16 01:58 -- 02:28 https://traintimes.org.uk/gtw/Btn/02:28a/2023-06-30 Short of paying for the National Express at 2am, might I expect Thameslink to lay on a...

Possible ticket from Brighton valid to either St Albans Abbey (via Watford Jn) or St Albans City?

Thanks all. It's for a job -- it'll be a taxi journey of either 3 miles from Watford Jn or 9 miles from St Albans. It'll be after 11pm that I'm arriving, and I'd rather just sit on the train all the way from Brighton. The train fare is pretty cheap with a Network Railcard, so they probably...

Fare Dodging - the new national sport?

Confession: in 1996 I travelled without a ticket from Harringay to Hornsey. I got nabbed by an inspector on the train and ran away from him and out of the station when the train arrived in. He yelled something after me about it being an illegal act. I didn't have enough cash to buy a ticket...

Possible ticket from Brighton valid to either St Albans Abbey (via Watford Jn) or St Albans City?

My intended destinations are either Watford Junction or St Albans City. I've done the walk from St Pancras to Euston quite often but I want to avoid it on this occasion. Would a ticket from Brighton to St Albans [City] be valid for this route: Brighton - East Croydon - Watford Junction - St...

Fare Dodging - the new national sport?

I've heard from people quite a few times: "Nobody checked my ticket [and/or "the barriers were open]. I needn't have bothered buying one [and will think twice about buying one next time]". With the implication that it would be perfectly fine to just travel for free if you weren't going to have...

Possible ticket from Brighton valid to either St Albans Abbey (via Watford Jn) or St Albans City?

I wonder: is it possible to get an Off Peak Return from Brighton to either Watford Junction or St Albans City, also allowing the return to Brighton to start from either of these stations? Reasoning behind it: there's just one connection an hour from Brighton to Watford Junction, changing at...

Thought I was buying an Anytime ticket, but on collecting it was an Advance

Interesting point. At this stage though, I'm just relieved that I won't be £80.40 out of pocket, as their initial response would have implied.

E-Tickets being inaccessible/difficult to use for the elderly.

Yes. My mother who is in her late 70s has had regular access to the internet using her own computer since 2002 (blimey, 21 years now!!), but she has never trusted to buy anything or enter her card details over the internet. On the rare occasion she's wanted something from Amazon or wherever...

Thought I was buying an Anytime ticket, but on collecting it was an Advance

UPDATE: Dealings with Chiltern Railways I phoned Chiltern on Friday night (3rd Feb 2023) and spoke to someone in their website ticket sales dept. He understood exactly my predicament, but would only have been authorized to issue a refund if I sent in the physical tickets through the post. I...

Thought I was buying an Anytime ticket, but on collecting it was an Advance

An Off Peak Single from Sheffield to London (£84) is a lot more expensive than an Off Peak Single from Manchester to London (£68.60). I'm a bit confused by your "split ticketing" comment; could you elaborate? I wanted to buy a non-Advance, non-booked train, Manchester to London ticket -- for...

Thought I was buying an Anytime ticket, but on collecting it was an Advance

Of course it's abrasive. But it's not abusive. In fact, it could be considered polite. I had sent it before I saw your feedback here though.

They are lying. I've drafted a mildly stroppy reply. BEFORE ARROW CLICK: AFTER ARROW CLICK: 1675376089 I was about to send this: ------------------------------- Thank you for your reply. What you state is incorrect. There is and was no mention on your website when I bought this ticket...

Thought I was buying an Anytime ticket, but on collecting it was an Advance

I might pilfer your middle sentence here if if they respond unfavourably to my initial request for a refund and I need to write a more formal complaint letter to them. Thank you! 1675375222 Update: I've just checked my email. They have replied to me in the negative...
