Caught without railcard - what now?

Surely any prosecution would need to prove the OP didn't have a railcard rather than inviting them to prove they did (assuming they were entitled to one), which is going to be tricky if they weren't stopped? It seems highly unlikely to me they are going to take out a fraud prosecution but maybe...

Will high speed rail ever become cheaper than flying?

I think for something like London to Paris the Eurostar is generally pretty competitive with airline fares - though what people actually pay is going to depend on demand etc. The problem is when you're comparing a flight from, say Bristol to Barcelona where the rail equivalent would be at least...

Who enforces "authorised vehicles only" motorway service station access roads

Rather amusingly the Southbound has someone pulling out in a Maserati. Maybe he works in WHSmiths though...

Who enforces "authorised vehicles only" motorway service station access roads

I'd be surprised if you hear anything about it to be honest. I'm not familiar with Michaelwood but I've seen plenty of people using them at other sites who give the impression they do it regularly. Welcome Break are supposed to stop people using them but there's no great incentive for them to do so.

Delay Repay both legs. Compensation more than ticket price?

Has this ever actually happened though? The actual delay repay causes I'm aware of (actual ones that made it to court, not vague threats from Greater Anglia) are far more clear cut than that, ie £10k+ of claims, forged tickets etc.

Ken Bruce Quits BBC Radio 2

Ten to the top just feels like a naff copy to me. I think they'd have been better not having any quiz for now and developing something different entirely. I wonder if keeping it at 1030 will remind people they could change over to GHR for the real thing.

Doors failed to open at Waterloo (1A20)

Something similar happened to me some years ago on a busy 365 at King's Cross. After about a minute there was a slightly stroppy announcement from the driver acknowledging the problem but rather non-committal about how much longer it would be. After about another minute there was a very stroppy...

Eurostar refund due to missed connections

SBB have re-booked a Eurostar for me in the past when I've missed it due to their delay, I don't know whether they'd be so keen when it's caused by someone else though. I would see what the guard on the sleeper can do to help then go to the booking office at Zurich and explain the whole thing...

How do you enforce pick up and set down only?

I've not had cause to hang around at Stevenage for a few years, but when I last did I noticed the Hull Trains set down only service used the furthest stop marker which meant the whole train was away from the entrance stairs where people tend to hang around for the train when it's quiet...

Are Class 700’s really that bad?

Not sure a door with a 10cm gap is going to be much of a fire break ;)

Are Class 700’s really that bad?

Aside from the hard seats, the lack of seats is my major issue with them - I think it's around 12 fewer per car than a 365. That makes sense in the core but for a typical outer suburban service which is busy but not crush loaded, with a 365 you might have all the seats taken plus a handful of...

Advice Only for Greater Anglia - Delay Repay Fraud

You're right, apologies. Nonetheless - I think the odds of hearing anything further are pretty slim.

Advice Only for Greater Anglia - Delay Repay Fraud

My understanding is that proceedings in a magistrates court would have to be started within 6 months. I think technically crown court proceedings could be brought at any time but that seems pretty unlikely assuming we're not talking about some massive fraud. GA could also bring civil proceedings...

    Vending Machines on Trains

The SNCF overnight couchette trains used to have them. The contents were generally pretty unappealing (packets of Haribo were about the highlight) - I once had a "coffee" out of one, not great but it was hot and had caffine in. They might be useful on some of the longer regional services...

    Should I delay repay ?

Unless I've misunderstood something I think requesting to be reimbursed for the taxi in incident 1 would be entirely reasonable. You'd need to contact customer services though rather than submitting a delay repay. You may be challenged on why you didn't wait for a bus or let them arrange a taxi...

Greater Anglia - Delay Repay Fraud - Discussion of wider issues/rights/wrongs/etc

They used to do this for delay repay - it was a complete PITA because they could only used at a manned ticket office. I always had a pile of them for about £3 each I had to try to remember to find a use for before they expired. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a cash refund (ie BACS...

Greater Anglia - Delay Repay Fraud - Discussion of wider issues/rights/wrongs/etc

It seems to me some of what GA are doing is sailing pretty close to the law on blackmail. If I got a letter and hadn't knowingly claimed incorrectly I'd be tempted to make a complaint to the local territorial police. I appreciate that's easy to say as someone without any skin in the game though.

Advice Only for Greater Anglia - Delay Repay Fraud

It's one thing for the TOC to refuse the DR request at the time (arguably a bit stingy depending on the precise circumstances) - but another entirely to be accusing them of fraud over a year later.

Tesco Train - Why Diesel under the wires?

It's pretty rare to see any electric-hauled freight. I agree it seems a bit daft though.

Why doesn't the e320 Eurostar run at 200mph?

I'm curious to know what would be involved in upgrading the LGV Nord and HS1 from 300 -> 320 km/h. Presumably the actual track is (mostly) suitable anyway? And presumably the TVM signalling can still be used with suitable gaps between trains..?
