Top Tips (Enter at Your Own Risk)

Bored on your train journey? Why not play a game of 'Beat the Traincrew' at your destination by pulling as many passcoms and agresses as you possibly can.

Southern to ban cycles throughout the Olympics

This is now not the case, as of yesterday. This original plan has been reversed and the normal cycle policy will now be in force, with the exception of 28/29th July on services via Epsom to allow maximum capacity for spectators travelling to watch the Cycle Race at Box Hill.

    Etiquette of informing fellow passengers

The fact the guard probably doesn't have £60 in his float, or if he did and has to give it all to you, what's he gonna do when he needs to give the next passenger change?

Wrong-way scrolling of destination on new Uno bus

A local company near me - Dickson's Travel - run the 48 Woking to Frimley service with one of these buses, and that has a 'backwards' scrolling display too.

    Work/Life Balance

For me, I think I'd pick the time at home over the time away. If that job meant it might take a bit longer for me to be able to move in with my partner then so be it. What good is getting a house together if you're never around to be in it? Just my view if it was me.

What does HC mean on a 450

Also note the numbers are 450/5. Units 043-070 were the ones converted into the high-capacity (HC) specification and were subsequently renumbered 543-570 so still follow the original sequence This means the fleet is now: 001-042, 543-570, & 071-127.

    150 / 142 drag race

Mondays to Saturdays there is an xx:59 'race' out of Woking towards Waterloo. The up semi-fast (p1) is normally a Class 450, and depending on what time it is the xx:59 up fast service (p2) is either a Class 444 or 450. Normally lasts about 4/5 minutes until the semi-fast service has to brake for...

    Class 455 for RW

Due to the 455s being suburban trains (no toilets, top speed of 75mph etc), Guildford is the furthest South they run on services from Waterloo via Cobham/Epsom. During the peak hours and on Sundays they operate Waterloo to Guildford via Woking stopping services. They can also be seen at Woking...

    Unique services

South West Trains' services between Guildford and Ascot? They even reverse at Aldershot enroute, and that's not a terminal station either! Moving on, how about the Weybridge to Waterloo via Hounslow services. Weybridge has 4 through tracks on the Woking to Waterloo mainline with a journey...

    no 444s on saturdays

Possibly due to the fact that a lot of the platforms along the 'Pompey Direct' can only hold a 5car 444 or an 8car 450, but on a Saturday you need more capacity than a single unit can offer. Therefore running an 8car 450 is simpler for the passengers as they only have to worry about short...

    Railway Jokes

Couple of rhymes passed down from the ex-BR blokes..... "The guard is the man, asleep in the van the van at the back of the train. The driver up front, thinks the guard is a c**t and the guard thinks the driver's the same!" "The guard is the man, asleep in the van dreaming of making a fiver...

Being the unbelievably pedantic bloke I am, it's actually 5.25 ;) And if you're really unlucky you'll get me guarding it!! :p
