A HST to be used in Mexico?

Right, but did they totally fix the problem? Do HSTs still struggle in extreme temperatures? Actually it has just struck that some modified versions were sent to Australia back in the day, so I guess they may be okay as long as they don't work them too hard. Perhaps the Mexican government...

A HST to be used in Mexico?

So the power units that were infamous for overheating are being sent to work in Mexico? Hmmmm....

    Archive footage of Woodhead Line

Wow, I never knew that that even after electrification some trains still had to be banked. I'd always presumed that the double headed sparkies were enough to pull virtually anything. Also I didn't know that they used the overhead line to communicate between drivers and bankers, which was pretty...

Why was (the old) Platform 4 at Cleethorpes abandoned?

I've been looking at pictures of Cleethorpes station and what was the original platform 4 seems to have been de-tracked and abandoned at least forty years ago and I was wondering if anyone knew why? I know that what was P5 was later renumbered to become P4, but even that seems to be only used...

Do the old bay platforms at Hull Paragon still get much use?

I don't know I was just speculating. 1677874872 Ahh right, so they are in full use at times. I still think that perhaps the area could be reworked with the removal of the excursion platform, so they could possibly squeeze another siding in. So when was Botanic Gardens reduced in size so much...

Do the old bay platforms at Hull Paragon still get much use?

Well It would remove a few points and I thought that perhaps they could fill in the bays and utilize the space for extra passenger facilities.

Do the old bay platforms at Hull Paragon still get much use?

Looking at pictures of Hull Paragon it amazes me that there has never been any rationalization of the whole excursion platform/bay platform area of the station. I know that the lines around the excursion platforms are regularly used for stabling stock, but I'm surprised that Network Rail has...

Bredbury - Cheadle / East Didsbury formation

I think they meant Georges Road tunnel which is where the line dived down under the A6 on it's way to Tiviot Dale Station. https://flic.kr/p/bV8sHx

    Silverdale Colliery.

To save the crew having to do a double run around perhaps?

Why does Rhymney station have so many stabling sidings?

Yeah, sorry I should have re-read the thread before posting that.

Why does Rhymney station have so many stabling sidings?

I've just stumbled upon some pictures of Treherbert Station and struck me how it's very similar to Rhymney as it's also a single platform station at the end of a single line despite which it has four stabling sidings.

Were the 1950s 4 wheel railbuses a total failure?

Thanks, I did wonder if they at least might have extended the life of these branches even if they did eventually face the inevitable axe. 1628868891 Right, I did wonder if them being new and modern looking might have attracted new traffic to a line, even if the reality of using them probably...

Were the 1950s 4 wheel railbuses a total failure?

I was looking at a picture of one of those little 4 wheel railbuses that BR used in the 1950s for small branch lines and it got me wondering, were they a total flop? By that I mean did rail users like them, hate them, not mind them? Did they actually improve the services in any way i.e...

Why does Rhymney station have so many stabling sidings?

Right, I did wonder if it was partly due a capacity issue at the main depots. Thanks everyone for your replies

Why does Rhymney station have so many stabling sidings?

I've been looking at pictures of Rhymney station and I notice that it has quite a sizable number of DMU stabling sidings, but I'm wondering why does a station with a single platform at the end of a single line have so much stabling capacity? The service doesn't seem to be that intense and I...

Is the Farington Depot still being used?

Now that the Blackpool electrification is complete are the DMU servicing sidings at Farington still being used? If not has anyone stated what the future of it is?

Trivia - abandoned railways with intact track

Yes, I was going to mention that one as the track was still in place when I visited a few years ago.

Is anyone able to explain this train on a suburban road?

I think it was the same location as this one on Flickr which was taken at Albert St In Cardiff. https://www.flickr.com/photos/turners_pics/50098237946/
