Merseyrail mandates that Trainline tickets must be printed out

Thats what I thought; the poster though says you must always buy your ticket at the intermediate station, so people will miss connections, and I bet RPIs will just issue penalty fares and point to it. For info though here’s the official timetable showing the Bidston connections - these can be...

Merseyrail mandates that Trainline tickets must be printed out

Is the last one correct though, or at least incomplete? I thought you did not have to purchase at the intermediate station, if to do so would mean you missed your connection. Example: Heswall (unmanned, no TVM) to Liverpool, often a few minutes late, cross-platform tight advertised connection...

Bought Child all area day saver instead of 16-18 day saver

Thanks, appreciated! It just illustrates though how easy it is to get this wrong - the number of permutations of saver, day saver, railcard, 16-18, 16-17, not to mention some of them being exactly the same price, for one single journey from Chester, is crazy.

Bought Child all area day saver instead of 16-18 day saver

My 17 yr old daughter (16-17 saver) bought a Chester-Spital (£3.30) last week at the Chester ticket machine. The Chester gate line attendant told her she should purchase the £2.95 child day saver in future as it would save her money, so yes, I presume it does sell the £2.95.

Bought Child all area day saver instead of 16-18 day saver

Tweet to Merseyrail: (April 2022) ‘Hi, Hamilton Square just refused to acknowledge the 16-17 Saver railcard again, saying it isn’t valid on Merseyrail and just down south. That’s a new one! They have issued her a child ticket even though she is 17. Letting you know as it obv still needs sorting...

Bought Child all area day saver instead of 16-18 day saver

I can vouch for that. On more than one occasion Hamilton Square could‘t find the 16-17 saver option for my daughter, and issued her a child fare, on their own initiative, instead. I recall immediately informing their twitter team once she’d told me, in case she had problems with RPIs.

Used 16-17 instead of 16-25 railcard

I’ve seen (Merseyrail) ticket offices more than once apply the 16-25 when asked to apply the 16-17 for family members! That’s as well as seeing my daughter book tickets on Trainline ticking 16-25 when she held 16-17… it’s a confusing product overlap.

    Disabled Railcard

That worked for us too but it was basically the hearing aid receipt and audiology scan that we sent in. The criteria they ask for - eg NHS battery book - just don’t exist any more.

    Potential fix for Ordsall Chord?

That would certainly solve a few different problems wouldn’t it! Has it ever been mooted?

    Merseyrail Contactless payments

Would Heswall and Upton (Neston too even though over the boundary?) also get tap-in, tap-out? Would make ticketing to Liverpool a whole lot easier than today on the Borderlands line.

Future of Ticket Office Consultations launched

Yes, exactly re Merseyrail. Especially when actually the booking office service/knowledge is often not good at all, time after time.

Merseyrail to adopt national Penalty Fare policy

Except if you are coming off a late-running Borderlands train at Bidston (for Liverpool) without a ticket (no eticket sales for the merseyrail flow, no TVMs, unstaffed stations, guard often busy), then Merseyrail expect you to queue at Bidston to buy your ticket and miss your advertised...

That was momentary excitement for the Bidston line!

Family railcard, child under 16 at time of purchasing

From a customer viewpoint though, it’s listed on the Railcard homepage as one of the 9 available products under ‘Find me a railcard’, with the same age-restriction promo language as the 16-25 and the 26-30, both of which are valid until the anniversary of purchase, even if that takes you over...

Family railcard, child under 16 at time of purchasing

Worth mentioning too though that a 16-17 young person’s railcard becomes invalid from their 18th birthday, regardless of when they bought it. Does anyone know why that particular railcard has a different rule? It surprised me when a family member mentioned hers expired on her 18th despite only...

Class 230 units training/introduction on the Borderlands line: updates

I’d expect so as the first trains are out by then - the only issue then is if one fails and where - I’ve heard some 230s are better behaved than others!

Class 230 units training/introduction on the Borderlands line: updates

Definitely worth checking on the day - I wasn’t expecting one to be out today at all and just saw it on the diagram on RTT early on.

Class 230 units training/introduction on the Borderlands line: updates

Ha, yes i know what you mean! to be fair though, very few cameras and notebooks other than mine, this was mainly families and teen groups presumably off to Liverpool 8-)

Class 230 units training/introduction on the Borderlands line: updates

Have just been on a short trip (Heswall-Bidston return) to try out the 230 for the first time - can confirm that they look, sound and feel brand new, they’re fast off the mark and really hope the TfW/Merseyrail/Merseytravel can keep the momentum going on this line. Can definitely appreciate why...
