Accident report of incident involving a train hitting a car circa 1966?

Not all accidents would have a report back then, but it is possible that it is listed on railwaysarchive. Try: https://www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/eventlisting.php?page=4&company=17&endYear=1970&startYear=1960&acctype=all&submit=Go&showSearch=true

What is this and what do the letters stand for please?

I believe that it is just a termination point for joining cables, yes. The actual equipment are red yellow and green boxes that are the same size and mount onto the same plug boards as BR930 series relays (see the first image here for a photo - on mobile so can’t get the direct link to the...

What is this and what do the letters stand for please?

Yes, as it is a subsidiary to signal 36 - If signal 37 were off you would want to stop transmitting the TPWS signal so the emergency brakes don’t come on.

What is this and what do the letters stand for please?

Railway signalling engineer here. I believe this is an enclosure for TPWS (Train Protection and Warning System) equipment. OSS stands for Over Speed Sensor, the OSS grids are the two which are spaced a little ways apart on the approach to the signal. Trig/Arm stands for Trigger/Arm. Basically...

    Infill electrification - definition

I think it is also a function of the number of (major) junctions along the line, as well as there being OHLE on both ends. However the length isn't as important IMO. For example Birmingham to Leeds isn't infill as there are many lines joining and splitting. However, assuming that the East...

    Great Western Electrification Progress

The photo was taken on the corner of the entrance to the taxi rank/bus stop. The lorry was heading west, having just rounded the corner behind the car park. Judging by the traffic the lorry required both directions stopped for a little while!

    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

If I understand it correctly an Autotransformer is simply a 1:1 transformer with the "top" of the primary and the "bottom" of the secondary* both connected to the same earth (which in the railway's case is also the traction earth for the whole system). The remaining two connections are then...

I caught this going through Bristol Parkway station car park yesterday. Completely stopped the job as it slowly manouvered round the sharp bend around the new multi storey car park! I don't think it was supposed to gmean that way. They're also putting up signs relating to the closure of the...

Schoolboys left injured after playing near rail line to sue over 'psychological trauma'

Isn't 25kV the RMS voltage? I also believe that there can be a variance in the RMS voltage by +/- 2.5kV! This means that the largest peak to ground voltage would be 27.5kV*sqrt(2), which would be around 38.8kV. The distance that you should stand away from a live wire is also a function of how...

Virgin Trains East Coast franchise to end 24 June 2018 and is temporarily re-nationalised

I didn't have time to take a photo, but all the "Stand Here for Coach X" signs at Peterborough are now in LNER branding. It's coming!

    Great Western Electrification Progress

NR on twitter have uploaded an image of a letter regarding works to the Filton tunnels this summer: https://twitter.com/networkrailwest/status/986177723704971266 It looks like they're going to hit this in one big lump, but there seems to be delays with a replacement bridge at Patchway. Let's...

    Great Western Electrification Progress

I'm just travelling from Chippenham to Swindon and there is a lot of SPS on pallets in the down cess just before Wootton Bassett, so it looks like there is some work going on there. After the junction a lot of the SPS looks to be installed along with the earthing wire, albeit on temporary pulleys.

    Caledonian Sleeper discussion

Long time lurker here, Network Rail has just released its "Strategic Business Plan" for CP6 (2019-2024) https://www.networkrail.co.uk/who-we-are/publications-resources/strategic-business-plan-2019-2024/ This contains a whole host of documents, most of them quite wordy. I was just skimming...
