    GTR St Albans drivers?

Avoid all these depots the work is pure garbage minimum turn around time and you will be worked like a dog. I was at Hornsey for 3.6 years and I hated every minute of it, plus it is a hard depot to get to. St Albans is pure Wimbeldon loops nothing else Cricklewood is not any better why do you...

Southern (GTR) - Trainee Train Driver (Future vacancies) - Various depots (02/06/23)

Where did you apply? and why would it stop you applying for this one? TOCs don't all get together and see who has applied for what and then rule them out.

    Advice for ex-forces engineer

You should have no problem getting in to the railway other than waiting for them to recruit which can be a slightly long winded process as for progress there is plenty of scope to go up the ladder. I have worked in engineering but on the ops side, you should target the TOC's you want to work for...

    EMR Qualified Driver

What job(s) did you do before becoming a driver?

Get back to me in a few years time when you have been doing the job a while and see how you feel then.Shift work is very tiring and takes it out of you especially the older you get plus the monotony of the job can grind you down, it's not at all like an Edith Nesbit book all flowery platforms...

Does any TOC recruit qualified train drivers anymore??

I have noticed a trend to only recruit trainee train drivers, you very rarely if ever see TOC's recruiting qualified drivers any more. Why is this? the cynic in me thinks they just don't want drivers who are maybe set in their ways or the old school BR driver bringing attitudes that they spread...

How bad are train driver rotas?

They can be pretty tiring but you can always swap for whatever shift pattern suits you best.

Is nepotism rife in the railways?

Rife probably not but prevalent without a shadow of a doubt i've seen it time and time again and it really gets on my goat. I know of people who are in positions that they should not be in purely because they have a family member in place to give them the job worse than that they advertise jobs...
