Could they run vintage trams in Edinburgh?

A single decker vintage service between St. Andrew Square and Ocean Terminal (where Britannia is berthed) would probably be a pretty decent tourist attraction. There certainly would not be much demand to see the delights of Broomhouse and Stenhouse at the western end of the route! I'd...

    Edinburgh Tram developments

As mentioned earlier in the thread the next proposed extension to the tram system is the spur heading towards Granton. Provision has been made so that trams coming from both east and west can switch onto the spur. As also highlighted the planning permission granted for the route is now...

    Edinburgh Tram developments

Travelled down to Newhaven and back from St Andrew Square this afternoon. No problems whatsoever. Very smooth and quick. The two guys I was with were new to the tram and were very impressed. It was extremely busy in both directions. After bouncing about on a bus over from Fife it was a real...

    Edinburgh Tram developments

There are proposals to build 3,500 new homes in the Granton area, on previous brownfield sites. I'd imagine the council will be looking for a substantial contribution towards the cost of the line from the home builders. I believe this happened with the building of the Newhaven extension.

    Edinburgh Tram developments

Excellent news that we're almost there with this. I suspect they are hedging their bets a bit, quoting 21st June as the start date. They will want it up and running before then if humanly possible. Granton spur next would make sense as I believe there is already approval for that part of the...

Tyne & Wear Metro antisocial behaviour

I've only ever seen trouble once on an Edinburgh Tram. They actually ran out of Pimm's in the dining car.

Matt Hancock resigns and following matters

After failing to provide his wife with a suitable explanation of his actions he will in future be known as Matt Han.

    Edinburgh Tram developments

I'm surprised the Picardy Place stop hasn't been renamed 'St James Quarter'. I believe the new St James Quarter Shopping /Leisure centre is due to open in phases from June this year so will be fully open when the tram line is up and running. Picardy Place although well known to Edinburgh...

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

I might be wrong on this but did Edinburgh Corporation Transport not use the number 50 as a special service number for buses out to the Royal Highland Showground when the event was on? I do remember the normal routes were numbered from 1 to 49 with most numbers being used.

Fair point. I agree it's a bit of a bummer paying for something no longer being provided!

You could use your Ridacard on the tram to either destination. Probably be faster than the bus.

I'd imagine the least threatening route would be the 23 from Trinity to Morningside. It's like a Saga day out with destination Jenners. The only problem might be the smell of filled tena-ladies downstairs. No one young enough to climb up to the top deck so no problem with neds or jakeys!

    West Lothian buses

Ah yes right. I see the bus shelter. I guess at least 90% of folk who went there did so by car. I dont think I was aware of a bus link direct from Edinburgh.

    West Lothian buses

It was a very popular place for shopping with plenty to keep the kids happy. It was killed off when McArthur Glen opened at Livingston. I always drove there from Edinburgh but don't remember seeing any bus stances next to the car park. Perhaps passing buses stopped outside the development...

    Edinburgh but not Waverley

I'm over 60 but as a wee laddie my late parents used to always refer to 'the Waverley' or 'the Caley' when distinguishing the 2 main stations at either end of Princes Street. The Caledonian (Princes Street Station) has of course long since gone. Haymarket has always been just 'Haymarket'...

The bus stances will be in an area which is currently parking spaces. It's going to be sharp left after turning into the current access road. Means it's nearer the tram stop. The plans are on the council website.

Legally it doesn't matter what you think though, it's what's determined at the driver's trial. He may plead guilty or not guilty based on whatever he's being charged with. It's the way our system works. Like it or not.

    Lothian Buses and ECB Discussion

The law talks about being discussed or reported in the media. The press clearly has far more scope to do damage than a relatively small public forum but do people really want to judge someone before the facts go to court? The law is there to protect an accused. Maybe we should respect that and...

The rules of the forum don't overrule the law of the land. The driver deserves a fair trial. Comments on a forum could be prejudicial. I'll leave it at that.
