    Query re Southern Pay

I do hope he's wrong as myself and 79 other southern trainees believe we go straight to full pay when we get our key! Haha.

£26k including London allowance. After you pass rules it's around £35k including London allowance. Then once you pass your ICA it goes to £49k.

Going really well. Nearly halfway through the classroom stage. Did my first passenger service drive with a DI last week. It's hard work but worth it. Yeah my DMI wasn't bad. Two people normally sit in. I had a DI and a DM. Know about the company, how many services they do. Where they go. Types...

    Time off during training

Congratulations on both accounts. I had this too. I was offered a start date pretty much on my sons due date. I explained to HR and they were really good about it. Offered me a start date one month later. So my boy was born April 13 and I start May 10.

    A quick thank you!

I'm the same height. It was highlighted at my medical. The doctor said because it wasn't a medical failure I would need a risk assessment. I was sent to a depot to sit in a couple of different trains. Had to sit, stand, climb in and out while being watched. I think it depends how your height is...

    Passed train driver assessment :)))

I didn't but can't imagine they'd have an issue with that. But I don't think they'd be happy if you they ask you what you know about the role of a driver or what you know about the company and you read it off a piece of paper.

    Passed train driver assessment :)))

I had my DMI 1 month after passing my assessments. MMI 1 and a half months after DMI. I reasearched Southern and GTR. Everything from their aims to the types of traction used. The number of services a day/year. What I knew of the role. They then asked me about 6 key competencies. The MMI was my...

    A quick thank you!

I just wanted to say thanks to the people on this forum. I start as a trainee driver with Southern in May. Been a tense 15 months since I applied. Laser eye surgery, risk assessments regarding my height slowed it down slightly but I'm finally there. So thanks to the people who put me at ease...

    Southern train driver height

I have a 36 inside leg too. Do you drive 377s? A bit of discomfort is nothing new being tall as I'm sure you're aware. But from a risk assessment/safety point of view do you think I'll be ok? Thanks.

    Southern train driver height

Really do appreciate the replies. The idea of getting knocked back after 14 months of applications, assessments, interviews and medicals is terrifying. It's nice to read a few reassuring messages. Ta.

    Southern train driver height

Hi all. Southern have verbally offered me a trainee driver role. Passed the medical and am waiting for a day to be risk assessed regarding my height. I've always told people I'm 6'5 but I came out as 6'4 and a half at the medical. I do have a couple of mates who currently drive and they say...

I've given references and guess I'm in a pool now waiting for a start date. At my medical, bupa kings cross I ticking to say I'd had the surgery and did a quick standard eye test. Just read the chart starting at the top going down as far as I could. Read a few of the letters on the bottom line...

I stand corrected then. That's me screwed I guess. Back to the talent pool I go.

Trainee Train Driver - Virgin Trains East Coast

Just a thought. But I was always under the impression checking tests/bourdon tests etc when given to potential train drivers was to see how you react under stress. It's not designed for you to get 100% scores. It's not about matching all the letter/numbers. It's more about not being rushed into...
