"Putting all your eggs in one basket" is a piece of advice which means that one should not concentrate all efforts and resources in one area as one could lose everything.
Don't know why that popped into my head. Oh well.
Here are a few recent examples of station closures.
Newhaven Marine - obsolete
Angel Road - replaced by Meridian Water
Rochester - replaced by new station
Folkestone Harbour - obsolete
IBM - obsolete
Redcar British Steel - obsolete
Abercynon North - replaced by Abercynon

Yes, I know OHLE is the superior standard. But where if the value for money in converting 36% of Britain's electrified network?
Sure the SWML could be converted but the government will never ever pay the astronomical costs of a full conversion. Nor will they outlaw existing 3rd rail as it is not...
To stand a chance at preventing climate change, you would need a successful green movement in places like China. Not Europe and Australia. That is never going to happen for obvious reasons.
Will there be a demand to replace the rest of the country's third rail for anything other than "safety"? Especially since it is grandfathered in and accepted.
Overground is just a brand for Tfl's suburban rail services. It made more sense for Romford-Upminster to go to Overground instead of the Elizabeth Line.
Why use unproven battery technology when you have a perfectly good third rail? I really don't think passengers on the Island want to be guinea pigs for this.
Vivarail's argument is that a demonstration will be a lot cheaper than a consultant's report (which will inevitably say how expensive a metro system would be). It gives cities an opportunity to try it out for themselves.
Lines and stations should only close if they are completely obsolete (Newhaven Marine etc) not because they have low passenger numbers.
Closing the Heart of Wales line to fund East-West Rail is a false economy.
Happened to me before on LNER. The Doncaster - Leeds portion was brutal.

I was more referring to yuppies with cans rather than the Ale trail people.
Drinking alcohol should be banned on the railways like smoking.
Transpennine at the weekend is full of drunk loud middle aged men and it's really annoying.
