    DB class 90 updates

Real problem that make electric traction uneconomical is the lack of OHLE, I'm surprised any freight company would use electric when for example freightliner need a class 66 from Felixstowe to Ipswich, then change to 2 90s down the GEML, think of the cost of faff changing and time compared...

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

Although a good thought, I suspect the saving would be minimal as you'd hope the occurrence is so infrequent it's almost a non problem as you'd expect the marshalling at Crown Point to have sorted it out before it comes on service as we're talking about 1 or 2 diagrams a day.. and only when one...

The Social Railway - Don't InterCity operators have such responsibilities too? XC bosses in particular, I'm thinking of you.

That's kinda the point I was making, the liability should be on the leasing companies, if you lease a car it remains the property of the leasing company and the only liability is the the contractual monthly payment.

The Social Railway - Don't InterCity operators have such responsibilities too? XC bosses in particular, I'm thinking of you.

Yes BR used to do it but without going into the BR or privatized argument, I don't think too many people would wax lyrical over BR. The fundamental problem is rolling stock leasing companies aren't really leasing companies taking on risk, they are just finance offering TOCs loans. The DFT...

The Social Railway - Don't InterCity operators have such responsibilities too? XC bosses in particular, I'm thinking of you.

This must be the only industry in the world that decides they don't want customers as they cause overcrowding rather than take on the challenge of adding more capacity to enable extra customers

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

At the risk of jinxing it, GA have been reliable since the pandemic/new stock settled down

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

I'm pretty sure they won't be reintroduced even if there was a requirement, as that would require another diagram and steeling another Stansted unit.

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

I also noticed the 7:05 was really busy from Norwich Thursday, we had a Stansted unit an the extra seats came in handy from Ipswich onwards. The 18:30 was full and standing coming back as well.

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

Does make me wonder if GA should look at trying to path an half hourly Colchester to London fast, stopping at Chelmsford and Stratford only rather than relying on the Norwich services

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

That's my experience too, I work at a consultancy and clients are now expecting more than a token office appearance once a month to a 2 or 3 times a week.

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

I assumed that over the Easter period but this week was back to peak fares, I was expecting it to back to normal. Hare fares if get more passengers on GA are definitely worth it but it goes back to the issue of needing just enough and not giving the problem of having to run more trains on...

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

Past 3 to 4 weeks I've noticed the peak GEML Norwich trains have gone from comfortably full ( everyone getting a seat although not many spare) to full and standing now, I put it down to Easter holidays but this week again full and standing. Also looking across at the other GEML trains leaving...

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

Strangely enough I only noticed the luggage rack removed on the Stansted unit I travelled on the other week, I've never noticed it on an IC and tbh generally sitting on the raised seats I never noticed that could be an issue

You'd be pretty disappointed if you were flying from Southend airport and on that train..

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

I guess it proves what an asset the 755s are, can add capacity almost anywhere on the network, as much as I've been critical of the 745 order (qty wise), the fact that GA spec'd tables and comfortable seats (well as comfortable as they get on new stock) has saved blushes on the intercity...

Network Rail hopes staff will be 'amateur meteorologists'

Both of which are causing stress on retaining walls and tunnels by expansion and contracting of surrounding land/soil.. requiring more maintenance.

Network Rail hopes staff will be 'amateur meteorologists'

The disruption caused by weather now is somewhat different to 20/40 years ago. As highlighted we have a more cautious approach to life as a whole than we used to along with whatever you believe climate change is bringing along. The example of freight train on a flooded line but a passenger TOC...

Surely they can't be amateurs as they will be getting paid to do it..

    June 2024 Timetable Change

There is definitely merit in improving traffic flow , it's a bit frustrating that Liverpool street to Norwich on a clear run could be done in about 1 hour 40mins on present stopping patterns but reliability and on time performance would take a hit as to achieve that sort of timing, everything...
