    A career as a signaller

I'd complete them by tonight rather than risk it. Might just be my region but there is always plenty of Sundays and rest days available so don't worry about that.

    A career as a signaller

Hi Jenny, Yes most relief position rosters you will know what days of the week you are working but won't know whether you are days or nights for those shifts until the roster is published. Rosters are published on the Thursday for the commencement of the next week which starts on a Sunday. A...

Trivia - signals that never change.

Fixed Red signals at the end of bi-directional working may come under the kind of thing you're after. Essentially it's just a signal to call the route up to and then presumably switch ends. Must be quite a few of these around the network.

    A career as a signaller

Quite a variety of jobs come up on the railway, some with better pay than others obviously. I'd guard against doing the job of signaller just for the money. I think you do have to be suited to the type of work it is and the affect shift work has.

    A career as a signaller

Personally I wouldn't say it's a disadvantage to start in a lower grade mechanical box as generally lower grade means less trains and less going on day to day. Of course there are very busy grade 2 boxes but then the term "busy" means different things to different people but I digress...

When I applied I put N/A for most of the questions as they related to specific railway events (Spads etc) so don't let that phase you. They are looking for the person who can display the correct attitude and experience in their application.

People with zero railway experience have gone straight into Grade 9 roles so don't feel restricted in what you apply for. These roles are advertised externally for a reason.

I agree, very tight timescale indeed. I would be surprised if they didn't choose internal candidates.

All currently 12hrs. Could be very difficult to get new entrants passed out for those workstations to go live by March. Perhaps if they do a West Cad course it's just about possible....

A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing and this adage was true in my intake. You will be judged on your non-technical skills and cannot be asked any rules related questions.

    Network rail signaller training pay?

Interesting nom de guerre....as you say NR in certain areas will be saving a grade even though the person is fully competent on that panel and fully productive for the company.

    Network rail signaller training pay?

Normally 1 grade below until you've been signed off on your box/workstation.
