    A career as a signaller

No problemo! I recall my rule books hadn’t been delivered for some reason so I had to go through my first week without them. Not ideal by any stretch of the imagination. Best of luck!

    A career as a signaller

Stoke-on-Trent Signalling Control Centre is located in (and controls) Stoke. Whilst it may bear resemblance to an office (being computer based signalling) it is very much a signal box

    Unsteady, nausea inducing Avanti services

The Crawford Churn, as it is known, is sadly quite a common phenomenon. As suggested above, sitting in the middle of the coach, looking out of the window (in daylight) and keeping as cool as possible are the only remedies I’ve found as another regular traveller in that neck of the woods

    Signal Diagrams

Try Simsig, the manual for each simulator has a “signal number plan” in them These are, with deep respect , absolutely not safety critical and not to be relied upon under any real world circumstances, (and also they don’t cover everywhere), but they’re free and in the public domain and if...

    Workington bridge closed? (29/02/2024)

Barrow (ex-Northern ) crews also sign it but yes that’s still the case and if it’s prolonged it may well go that way

Are there any train drivers earning £100k or more?

Hidden is still the same so max 12 hour shift and minimum 12 hours between and rolling 60 hours between. Of course these are maxima and the terms and conditions for most companies reduce, for instance, the maximum booked shift length considerably down from 12 hours (somewhere between 9 and 10...

Hypothetical diversionary routes if lines through Kent House are blocked

Right enough, more put the last bit in to illustrate why more SE trains don’t go via Catford more than they do in the booked timetable

Hypothetical diversionary routes if lines through Kent House are blocked

New Beckenham yes, Birkbeck no (SE drivers don’t sign it, there’s a single line section that’s occupied most of the time by the Southern service to Beckhenham Junction so there’s little point). Catford Loop has a pretty high max capacity signalling wise in and of itself (at least as high as the...
