Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

You won’t necessarily be in Taffs Well. If there’s loads of drivers who want to transfer to Taffs Well who already work here then you will be way down the list (if you get all the way through) as it goes on seniority and rightly so. You will be Cardiff or Taffs Well so don’t expect to go...

    2 hand coordination psychometric

If I remember correctly they had a thin plastic type cover/tube that goes over the shaft? I just held the top of the sticks and had no issues whatsoever. I remember someone on same assessment day panicking because the tube came off but that person still passed. We weren’t told they could come...

You are in for a shock on our scheme then as it’s certainly nowhere near £350pm. I looked at this scheme and decided to avoid it like the plague and bought a new car elsewhere.

He’s talking absolute rubbish. Doesn’t mean you’ll pass the tests or even get through the initial sift but when the jobs come up, apply as loads of externals with no experience whatsoever have been getting on courses the last few years.

    Assessment Day Help

Is that all? Add another 18 months on that for some I know! Worth it in the end though

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

It’s 4 weeks block leave on the valleys, not 5. 1 spring, 1 winter & 2 summer. So 16 block and 12 floating days. Depending on when Xmas falls you have to keep a day for that aswell. Regarding shifts, you could end up with 2 weeks of afternoons on a trot (not often) but generally it alternates...

That’s not always the case. Possibly is on this recruitment drive but if they decide to extend it they can if they choose to.

Ah that’s fair enough. Glad I’m not in that depot then :)

Not exactly true about working 1 in 3 Sundays at this present time. I have 8 in a 48 week link so that’s an average of 1 in 6. Sometimes can go 8/9 weeks without a rostered one and other times you could be rostered 2 in 3/4 weeks. Can see it being 1 in 3 in the future though as Sundays could...

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

I believe it’s normally based on how well you interviewed to determine your position in the pool. Nothing to do with assessment scores. You just have to pass them… and I personally wouldn’t spend £150 on the software some have mentioned as it’s not needed in my opinion. Each to their own though...

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

Have you been given a start date yet? If so, Mainline or Valleys? Only wondering as you stated the talent pool was empty back in July so just trying to gauge how long it’s taking some from around July time assessments/DMI success to get offered a course start date.

You normally can’t swap any shift for a number of months as the company want you to cover all shifts and as many shunts etc. as possible and you will have to do your first week of nights. Shifts tend to be: Earlies 3-4am starts Days 6-8am starts Mids 10-1ish Evenings 3-4ish Nights 10-11pm starts...

Do you know if it’s Valleys or mainline?

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

Sounds great and hopefully you’ll be starting before you know it. I was only saying as it would be devastating watching a few valleys courses take place which you could have been on and your time running out in the pool. It can happen but fingers crossed for you. If you’ve had your medical it...

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

You’ve been in the talent pool almost a year and are restricting yourself from getting offered a position by waiting for mainline? Maybe you have reasons for that but I wouldn’t take the risk on missing out. There are internals waiting to transfer over which should be taking priority over you...

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

For info, I believe you can sit in the talent pool for up to 3 years now. Well a load of us did on my course a few years back when Arriva pulled out of the running to run the franchise so they extended it. Somebody said that they are keeping it at 3 years now but don’t take that as gospel. 2...

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

What do you mean? I asked if you have passed everything or just applied as you weren’t very clear. If you just applied then you aren’t in the talent pool. If you’ve passed all the tests etc. then you are in the pool. As for the rest of my comments about waiting in the pool, I’m just saying the...

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

When you say applied you do mean you’ve passed all the tests, interviews etc. yeah? If you have only been in the pool since last year then that’s not long at all. You should try being in there nearly 3 years because of the franchise changing hands and only qualified drivers being recruited...

Transport for Wales - Trainee Train Drivers

If you’ve been told that then process must have changed. With so many jobs coming up they probably aren’t that bothered with whatever order people come through during this recruitment process as they are going to get what they need anyway. Ask what position you are in the pool when you contact...
