Trivia: Routes that don't stop at any stations in a county they pass through

Only one that comes to mind is Cross Country trains occasionally skipping Tamworth and/or Burton in Staffordshire, although I'm sure a few more will come to mind when they're mentioned!

Cross Country to operate Leeds-Glasgow via Settle services using HSTs?

Perhaps I'm imagining things but a while back, didn't LNER run a service between Leeds and Edinburgh via Carlisle using HSTs?

Great British Railways: Thoughts, predictions, speculation

Interesting. So essentially we'll see a big merger between LNER, EMR, and half of Northern?

From Wiki: Will East Midlands fall under NW & Central or East Coast?

Is Transport Fever 2 worth getting?

I've been searching for a game in which I can build a realistic layout with all the up to date British rolling stock in it. Is TF2 the game for that?

Why are so many trains in a mostly white livery these days?

My bad about West Midlands. I wasn't sure whether I should count Grand Central as they're an open access operator, same with Hull Trains and Heathrow Express. Re: EMR - they're still doing the same thing for their 156s and 158s, which I don't get - the full maroon livery would look so good on...

Why are so many trains in a mostly white livery these days?

Every current TOC with the exception of GWR, Scotrail, Cross Country, Transpennine Express and South Western now has the same colour scheme - a white carriage with the door in the main colour of the TOC. Is there a reason why they're mostly all following the same formula, perhaps a sign of...

    Stations you would rename.

So many in Leeds: Bramley = Swinnow Horsforth = Tinshill Headingley = Kirkstall New Pudsey = Stanningley Burley Park = Hyde Park Kirkstall Forge = Hawksworth

    Splitting Northern

An idea that has been discussed on here numerous times but always an interesting discussion. How would you do it, if it came to pass? One good idea was to merge the Yorkshire and North Eastern half of Northern with LNER, and have the North Western routes under its own franchise (North Western...

Rank a TOC's rolling stock from best to worst

Might as well give my reasons for Northern's fleet. Class 158 - An absolute icon of regional railways. Smooth, comfortable, looks good and that roar! Versatile too, can work any route. Class 170 - A great addition to Northern. Smooth, clean and for a train that's nearly 20 years old, still...

Rank a TOC's rolling stock from best to worst

As far as local services go, 323s and 333s are perfect.

Rank a TOC's rolling stock from best to worst

In the summer I got a train from Kirkgate to Leeds. It had come from Sheffield in the form of a Class 150. Meanwhile, at the same time a 158 had pulled into the station, operating the Bradford to Castleford stopper. Thought it was odd how a fresh, clean and refurbished flagship unit of the...

Rank a TOC's rolling stock from best to worst

I like the 156s, they're an icon of provincial railways in the UK, but 323s/333s are probably the best EMUs for me, and 170s have proved a fantastic addition to Northern's fleet, too bad they're only really used on local-ish services. They'd be perfect for the Leeds to Sheffield stoppers, as...

Rank a TOC's rolling stock from best to worst

    I'll start with Northern: Class 158 Class 170 Class 333 Class 323 Class 156 Class 195/331 Class 153/155 Class 150

    Best EMUs

333s or 323s. Both absolutely perfect for the local commuter/suburban routes they serve, and are more comfortable and smooth than certain particular trains used for more long distance services *cough*Class150*cough*

    Best sounding DMU's

The roar of the class 158 is iconic

    Northern Class 195: Construction/Introduction Updates

I may be a bit biased because the 158 is my all time favourite unit, but riding a 195 along the Calder Valley Line just doesn't feel the same. They look very smart but the seats inside are uncomfortable. Mind you, so are the new 158 seats.

Proportion of EMU Services through Manchester, Leeds & Birmingham.

The vast majority of EMU services out of Leeds are the 333s and the occasional 331 that serve the Wharfedale and Airedale lines, to Bradford, Ilkley and Skipton. There's also the Leeds to Doncaster line, which uses 331s. Aside from that it's all diesels. 150s, 158s, 170s, 186s, 195s, Azumas...

    Worst UK train?

I get what you mean and I agree. As far as local suburban/commuter trains go 323s are up there with the best. But what I meant was that like how 323s are a staple and symbol of local routes in and around Manchester, the 144s were the same for Leeds and West Yorkshire. They weren't the greatest...
