Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

Meanwhile, they often seem to be running 4-cars on the Felixstowe line. Surely this is the line that needs 4-cars the least, after all for so long a single car 153 was serving it? I don't really understand how GA works sometimes.

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

Greater Anglia do have a clip of him talking about the 755s and how much he likes them but I guess this didn’t make it into the broadcast. I’m still catching up, currently on week 2 in Cornwall/Devon so haven’t got that far yet. https://twitter.com/greaterangliapr/status/1220688555720265729?s=21

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

I can remember when the platform at the old Sudbury station had a wooden extension because the platform in front of the station building was sealed off due to vandalism. Can they not do the same here as a temporary measure, or do regulations no longer allow it?

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

332! 323 doesn’t exist. I’ve just seen photos of it sitting in Sudbury station on Twitter. I can’t wait to try it out at the weekend, even though I have already been on 755s Norwich to Gt Yarmouth and Thetford to Cambridge.

    Class 745 Stadler FLIRTs

Only one has been accepted into and is in service at the moment, 745007 which is currently running the weekday diagram starting at 07:40, 12:30, 17:30 from Norwich. This started on Wednesday 8th January and was supposed to be one new train into service every week, so next one should be any day...

    Greater Anglia Rolling Stock Updates

Probably, because surely 156/170s would be able to run to the normal timetable on the line?

Greater Anglia Bombardier Aventras (Class 720): Technical discussion and introduction

As if the problems with the Stadlers weren’t bad enough, it was mentioned on BBC Look East tonight the introduction of the Bombardiers has been further delayed to Spring 2020. Presumably this is when they expect to start being delivered to GA for testing? Will any 720s be in service before...

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

It seems almost certain that by the new year some lines (Felixstowe and Sudbury) will have no service at all while the FLIRTS that have so far been brought into service will be struggling to run a skeleton service on other lines, supplemented by rail replacement buses. The new trains are not...

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

Steam and diesel loco-hauled trains have operated on this branch in the past. Surely the axle weight on these has got to be a lot greater than a Stadler? Or has the bridge (viaduct?) concerned become that much weaker since early this century? If it is a problem I hope something is being done to...

    Norwich-Yarmouth 37s

I doubt anyone here, or even GA themselves, would know that for sure. The latest information is that the Class 755s will be replacing the 37s on the Wherry lines from late June or early July. So I’d say it’s only possible but not likely that will have happened by 28th June.

London to Norwich - 90 min timings

The second and final southbound Norwich in 90 has just arrived at Liverpool Street, 7 minutes late because of delays at Bethnal Green. Look East has been covering it live. Greater Anglia regarding it as an aspiration to include more stops in the future when the new trains come into service.

Beestons of Hadleigh, Suffolk, now have new ticket machines and have posted on Twitter that they are planning to roll out contactless during the summer.

Trivia: Routes with a Better Sunday service then Saturday.

Clacton trains call at Marks Tey (junction for the Sudbury line) on Sundays, but not the rest of the week.

Most scenic or closest to London Pacer journeys.

Not really a journey except for a one mile length of preserved line in Essex, but there is an operational Pacer, class 141 at the Colne Valley Railway near Halstead.

    Sudbury branch

Whenever I travel on this line the train always stops at Bures. I have no idea why it’s been made a request stop because even if no one got on and off there, it would just get to Sudbury or Chappel a bit earlier and then have a longer wait before setting off again. A benefit to passengers...

    Greater Anglia Rolling Stock Updates

Will the proposed level crossing closures mean any increase at all in speed limits in the areas affected? This could also shave a little off journey times. Some lines such as the Braintree and Sudbury branches are still limited to 50mph but not sure if this is due to the track or because of the...

    Stations which could/should be closed

It should be getting a direct service to the Sudbury branch stations when Abellio get new rolling stock in a few years time.

funniest thing to see on a platform!!!

There may be eight but definitely not nine. The "ninth" is actually a man, definitely not a nun, but can only be seen in the first picture not the twitter images. Great picture though. :)

Trivia: stations with British railways Totem signs on network rail

The Sudbury-Marks Tey line has modern replicas in BR Eastern dark blue with sponsorship messages above and below the station name.

    GEML franchise 2016

On one of my local lines, Sudbury, the platforms at Sudbury and Marks Tey wouldn't be long enough for what I assume will be three-car bi-modes. Sudbury is 52m and I believe MKT is either 45 or 50m. The other two stations should be ok. Would the curved platform 3 at MKT also be an issue if the...
