    A career as a signaller

Would imagine managers, LOMs, controller roles would be first to go and save money...can't sacrifice safety by cutting front line staff...MOMs and signallers

    A career as a signaller

I always understood it as 12 weeks from the closing date of the vacancy. I also done interviews with a LOM and this was his understanding too

@Cleanshirt Great insight into your journey into the signalling role, and it mirrors mine...although mine was 9 weeks. 1 thing that baffled me though... "Normally it would have been 2-3 weeks to “pass out” and start running the box by yourself but for me it was closer to 3 months due to the...

    A career as a signaller

Sundays have to be worked - unless roster clerk can get them covered...so while the overtime rule would be a good one, wouldn't work for Sundays

Not with that attitude Tom! Where's your signallers mentality gone...no time for rational explanations now :D

    A career as a signaller

Yeah...you b*$tards...look after your MOMs on track :p Very scary video, and could not imagine what the MOM, driver of both trains or the signaller must have had going through their mind

    A career as a signaller

Not to say it's not possible, but a box like Guildford is a dream! As a hiring LOM, are you going to take a proven, existing signaller, who wants to progress and minimal waiting around or take on a newbie who needs to attend signalling school and be onboarded and medical etc? Not saying it can't...

    A career as a signaller

We never get tired mate - machines! This is correct info - Guildford is like dead man's shoes though I'm afraid...a list as long as my arm for existing signallers to get in. I'd be extremely surprised if an external candidate got the role!

    A career as a signaller

This one always got me! I've got a girl the same sort of age and this was a huge eye opener

    A career as a signaller

I understand that, and I have also interviewed signallers...external and internal, and agree it’s frustrating when you ask the opening questions and get a blank look as their response :( but coming into a forum of professional signallers and looking for advice is a lot different to coming into...

    A career as a signaller

I can't help but think, all people new to signalling/network rail...just want things handed to them! Such a difficult role to get in to, then once you are in you're still competing with other staff members to get the better roles! You need to learn to apply yourself and work for the role you...

MOMs also have a roster, and we also have relief MOMs too - relief know what day they are working, but don't know where, or what shift. Resident MOMs can plan their year as they know days and shift...exactly the same as signallers
