Cheapest way to use Gatwick Express

Yes, good point. Thanks for the advice. :) Agreed, it's probably not worth it for a couple of quid. Ha ha! Good point about Southern making it difficult to do business with them and thanks for the info on how to get all of the tickets successfully. You've been really helpful. :D

Cheapest way to use Gatwick Express

Yeah I can see that point but in my case, it didn't seem worth "risking it" for 45p each. I now see that there's a "Southern Only" travelcard for £16.20 for each day which would mean we'd save £2 each over the travelcard+BZ6 option above. In my opinion, this would be valid on Gatwick Express...

Cheapest way to use Gatwick Express

Excellent. Thanks for the detailed instructions! :D I think I'll buy the whole lot at the TVM in Gatwick anyway as I'd prefer to pay cash for them (assuming the TVMs there take cash) and it's easier to do it all in one go. Thanks again for the help and for the interesting subsequent...

Cheapest way to use Gatwick Express

That's really helpful. Thanks! So basically, for an extra £3.15 over the Gatwick Express ticket, I get the tube to Temple on the Friday night thrown in and all of our travel on the Sunday so we only need to use Oyster on the Saturday then (3rd October). That sounds like a good deal to me...

Cheapest way to use Gatwick Express

Yeah, I'd spotted that one but I specifically wanted to get on the 442s so was wondering if there was a cheaper way to do so. Thanks for the advice though! :) As I understand it, the print at home tickets are only valid on Gatwick Express services whereas the tickets from the TVM are valid...

Cheapest way to use Gatwick Express

Hi All, Sorry if this is a duplicate thread. I did search the forum but didn't find anything that would seem to help me here. Feel free to point me to the correct thread if I've missed something obvious. :) My partner and I are flying into Gatwick on 2nd October (arriving at 20:00) and out...

    EMT again

This makes me remember going on a day trip to Bath from Swansea when I was a child. We had to change trains in Cardiff Central and, at the time, they used to stop both the Manchester train (that left first) and the Portsmouth train really close to each other on the same platform. It looked to...

SailRail (again!) - London, Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow

I would ring Stena Line as they do sail-rail on the Holyhead to Dublin and Belfast to Cairnryan routes so would quite possibly be able to sell you one ticket for the whole trip. They're normally really helpful and knowledgeable. Their phone number is 08447 70 70 70 (I think I've also used the...

Greater Anglia: flexible with "Advance" tickets?

The guard on the 22:30 suggested he may have rung someone from his course who may have the same information as him. He also texted him to tell him about the easement and said he'd ask his manager to send an e-mail around to all guards to remind them of this. I have to say, he was brilliant and...

Greater Anglia: flexible with "Advance" tickets?

OK thanks. I'll mention it when (if) I get a response to my reply to GA's e-mail. I'm sure the woman who e-mailed back hasn't actually looked into the situation and has just trotted out the standard excuse too. With regard to him forgetting: I agree there's loads to remember and the guard on...

Greater Anglia: flexible with "Advance" tickets?

Thanks for the confirmation. I'm going to keep fighting this one in that case. It's crazy that different information is being fed to different people. The guard on the 22:30 did say that the guard on the 21:30 was a local guard and that he'd only just qualified so that does explain it but...

Greater Anglia: flexible with "Advance" tickets?

Yes indeed. I replied making it clear I wasn't going to be fobbed off. Here's my reply:

Greater Anglia: flexible with "Advance" tickets?

Yes I suspect I am being fobbed off so I asked her to clarify why 3 members of booking office staff and one member of on-train staff gave me "wrong" information stating that I was able to travel on the 21:30. I suspect she's just quoting the standard Advance regulations to me and hasn't bothered...

Greater Anglia: flexible with "Advance" tickets?

I agree completely. Unfortunately, as this is not published anywhere, it just seems to be an unwritten rule that cannot be proven leaving the passenger at the mercy of the guard. :( --- old post above --- --- new post below --- OK, so I've had a reply from Greater Anglia informing me that the...

    SailRail: Valid to Heathrow?

That is a good point. I still don't see why it can't be made valid on the Heathrow Connect only though. I wouldn't expect to be able to travel on HEX with a SailRail ticket but I would have thought the Connect would have been an option. C'est la vie I suppose.

    SailRail: Valid to Heathrow?

I can see that point but I was talking more generally that it seems crazy that the UK's busiest airport has no National Rail link. As you say, not much we can do about it. Thanks everyone for confirming my suspicions about the SailRail ticket.
  17. G

    SailRail: Valid to Heathrow?

Yes that would explain it. It's very annoying that the UKs busiest airport isn't part of the National Rail network. I also find it confusing that you can buy through fares from the Heathrow train stations but yet tickets like SailRail aren't valid there. It seems contradictory to me.

    SailRail: Valid to Heathrow?

Yeah I spotted that one. It doesn't make sense that it's not valid to Heathrow but it looks like it isn't. I'd have to get the Tube from Euston to Paddington anyway so I'd probably be better off just getting the Tube all the way to Heathrow for £3 on the Oyster card. Thanks for checking though. :)

    SailRail: Valid to Heathrow?

Hi All, I'm looking at getting a flight out of Heathrow as it's a much better deal than flying from Ireland. I'm thinking of SailRailing it over from Dublin but can't find any information about whether the SailRail ticket is valid to Heathrow. I'm almost certain it wouldn't be valid on...

Greater Anglia: flexible with "Advance" tickets?

Yes I think you're right Yorkie. Another passenger boarded the 2230 at Colchester having been kicked off the 2130 and threatened with the police. The guard on the 2230 worked out who was working the 2130 and said he'd only been out of training around 2 weeks and was normally a local guard so...
