    Serco for Sleeper

Ironically the coaches in the brochure look similar to our Irish Rail mk4s, which truly are attrocious pieces of junk... and built by CAF in 2006. Many of them are laid up at the moment, displaced by new DMUs, and we were joking earlier after seeing the brochure if Serco were buying them to...

    North Wales Coast Resignalling

Thanks for the replies. Ah right, that's good to know. I thought it was happening imminently (haven't been down the coast myself in many months so couldn't check progress physically), and with no visits planned for at least the next few months I thought I'd might miss the opportunity to get...

    North Wales Coast Resignalling

Where abouts are we with this project? My understanding is that Llandudno-Chester (and Blaenau branch) are to be done mid-late 2014. Presumably preparatory work is well underway. Haven't been over in Wales since August so can't comment on visual observations. Apologies if this is been...

Class 158s : air con, scandalously still poor.

Agree with you totally, I was on 158822 back in June and it was atrocious. The guard resorted to opening the windows, for all the difference it made. One of the reasons why I try to plan any trips that involve ATW along the NW Coast around the 175 diagrams.

    London-Southampton May 25th

Thanks folks. Have got some good advice both above and in private. One thing i forgot about is that Southampton Parkway is barrierless, potential to get off there, buy a ticket into Central.

    London-Southampton May 25th

Very simple question really; London-Southampton fares on the morning of Saturday May 25th are showing at £37+, e.g. the 10:05 ex Waterloo, yet to go further Brockenhurst on the same train is £10. Why???

Belfast-Dublin "Winter Enterprise" 3/2/12 (feat. NIR 111 Class GM and steam loco 461)

Pity there isn't a Newry stop on the outbound to meet the first Enterprise ex Dublin.

    New Railtour Company

and for the benefit of those people who are not members of "another popular rail forum", would you be so kind as to share the reasons why these people are upset / angry and why would not go near this company?

    New Railtour Company

http://www.greatbritishrailway.co.uk/ Seems legite. Company is registered and the website is professional enough. Any idea who are behind this?

    Colas Trials (56 & 86) 24.10.12

So would i be correct in saying then that the colas 66s are concentrated on the Carlisle-Chirk workings, 47s on Boston steel, 56s on new timber flows from Devon and South Wales? What are the plans for the 86?

    Class 175s

15:40 Holyhead-Manchester on Sunday is usually 2x 175/1s to Chester where one comes off. I believe the rear one does be locked out of use.

    DRS Gresty Bridge Open Day

A few of us are flying over to Liverpool on Saturday morning then onto Crewe. I myself will probably do some GM645 haulage to Holyhead instead, if i remember correctly the last time there were hours of queuing involved and i have no patience whatsoever. I'd also rather keep travelling than...

    Competition 627 (Signals) :: Voting

Number five for me. Quite a historical photo, because the everything concerned with the train is now gone. Wrexham and Shropshire are gone, Cargo D are gone, and EWS were taken over by the Germans.

ha ha, memories of 2009 when 37670 had sparks and smoke coming from it's bogies trying to get the train moving onto the branch.

50 out of pad, 31 to skeg for charity

I wonder whether it would have been a better idea just to have a more straight forward run with say a 50 to somewhere in the West Country? Genuine route for that type of engine, you'd also have less costs due to not having to hire the NR machines, and also Skegness is too much of a stagger hauled.
