Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Annoyingly, the soundbound drag - 5Q75 - was only recorded as cancelled (on RTT) two hours after itts booked arrival into Marchwood. I was there this morning, to capture NR track inspection unit on the branch - but I needed to head off before 5Q78's early afternoon departure from Marchwood.

Plans to reopen Totton - Fawley/Hythe (again!)

Network Rail's track inspection unit visited Fawley's branch, reversing at Marchwood, this morning - and this view felt tantalisingly like resumption of the passenger service. :)

    Loco hauled around Havant

Goodness, what a difference! And that was before a housing development sprung up, adjacent to Marchwood old station. Many thanks for sharing this fabulous view. The home bracket in the distance, looks far more presentable than it did in my post #20...

    Loco hauled around Havant

Thanks and it proves the mechanisms are still in working order :) The signal frame is housed within a small brick cabin added onto the former station, facing the platform. You can see it pictured in posts #39 and #101.

    Loco hauled around Havant

An inspector calls. Network Rail's track inspection unit makes a rare trip down the former Fawley branch; pausing briefly at Marchwood's old station before retracing its steps. A fresh coat of yellow since its appearance on post #4 of this thread. Difficult backlighting here; and I wish that...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

The 701s are securely stored inside MoD Marchwood's compound. Perimeter fences are high and of barbed-wire; and the compound is not short of security guards, either. There is some graffiti on 'em though. A yellow tag, "Arterio". ;)

lostwin - BR in the mid 80's

Gem of a shot. It begs to be modelled in N or OO scales.

    Locomotive Services Fleet (LSL) updates

Hope you enjoy it :) Mayflower has been a regular performer on steam hauled trips in this area, over the past few years.

    Locomotive Services Fleet (LSL) updates

The attached path - LSL Horsham to Bristol TM this Saturday - is on Realtime Trains, so does any forum reader know what it is for? Thanks in advance.

PF/UKRT Western Champion 'One Way Wizzo' Railtour 14/4/24

I failed to spot the tell-tale lower quadrant arms in the background :D. The sign mentions crossing via the subway; I wonder which stations on that route, had a passenger subway rather than footbridge? Edit - above post confirms Taunton.

Why did Parcels Multiple Units fall out of favour?

The class 130 was a fascinating hybrid, with a BR GUV sandwiched between the former 116 driving motors.

PF/UKRT Western Champion 'One Way Wizzo' Railtour 14/4/24

Tantalising 1970s shot, another with aircons. I cannot for the life of me, work out where it was taken. The sign in the foreground appears to be BR (WR) brown - or is it a very weathered BR (LMR) maroon?

People buying houses with associated noise (churches, railways etc) and then complaining about the noise?

When I walk into a room, people immediately turn to look at me. But I think that's due to my persistent flatulence. ;)

    Loco hauled around Havant

Many thanks. I'll try that location once I can get better quality of light. My fellow local photographer (see post #86) also intended a shot ar this spot; but he abandoned it due to the cloud-cover. So my only companion was a nearby lusty pheasant, calling raucously...

European cities with ‘classic’ bus/tram still in service

Indeed - line 14 (which, conveniently, stops at Rome's railway terminus) still has some services operated by these 1948-49 era beauties.

    Loco hauled around Havant

Bring me sunshine. This morning's first two hours of clear sky was great for the early dog walk; but, by the time today's Merehead-Chichester aggregates working passed, it had mostly disappeared under a large encroaching bank of clouds. Typically, five minutes later saw a further hour's sun...

    Locomotive Services Fleet (LSL) updates

I'll have to dig out my old 35mm shots and get nostalgic :D I did one Skegness round trip behind a pair of Choppers. Another pair took me to Scarborough (albeit that wasn't on a timetabled service train, I was on "The Vladivostok Avoider").

Why did Parcels Multiple Units fall out of favour?

Royal Mail's contract with EWS (ex-RES) ceased early-2004. The few remaining T.P.O. services ended that January. I believe this also ended the conveyance of parcels by rail. The converted DMU / EMU classes you mentioned (bar 325) were life expired by the 1990s; and rail-borne traffic volumes by...
