Advice sought: car / rail transfer point north-west of London

If travelling at weekends Hillingdon or Ickenham are good bets. Just off the A40 so easy from Brum (I live in Worcestershire so often use the M40 to get to London) gets busy weekdays though and are often full by 10.00am. Easy trip into town then by Met or Piccadilly lines.

    S Stock Update

Just out of interest, do you ride in each car in order to clear a unit for haulage?

    Recommended stations to visit

Gants Hill is a fabulous station at platform level. Southgate and the stations at the Cockfosters end of the Piccadilly line are all listed structures now. (Southgate westbound platform is the only one on the system where you can see daylight at the end of the tube tunnel from the platform)

    Favourite LUL Stock?

1938 Tube Stock for me. Loved CO/CP as well and I miss the A stock especially bouncing over the crossings at Neasden.

Google Earth image gives apperance of a 3 car S Stock!

Curiously, on the Google Earth satelite image if you follow the Metropolitan line from Preston Road towards Northwick Park and zoom in so that the view is 'angled', just after the line crosses Windermere Avenue there seems to be a 3 car S stock train! Bet it's a bit draughty in the last carriage!

How much of the Underground map have YOU covered?

Back in the seventies when a few of us used to chase after car 10306 on the Northern, a few managed to do the Kennington loop in it. Not me unfortunately.

How much of the Underground map have YOU covered?

All of it as well. Managed to buy a ticket from every station as well over the years, including Blake Hall and Trafalgar Square. Priv. singles were only 6p in those days!!

Hillingdon car park on a Saturday- how full?

Used Hillingdon station car park many times on Saturdays and Sundays. Never had a problem finding a space. Charges reduced at weekends as well so not even worth street parking either.

    Tours of Aldwych Station

You'll thoroughly enjoy it, I certainly did last year! The staff present when I went were very enthusiastic and helpful. The dSLR ban was a bit odd though, so I just took a compact digital camera instead and took loads of photos without any hinderence.

    Station Names on Tickets

Many thanks for the info. You're right about the deep pockets, most of mine cost me about 6p as Priv singles in the late 70's!

    Station Names on Tickets

Many years ago I started collecting tickets from each station on the Underground. I managed to buy one from each station (even managed Blake Hall!) but it's occured to me that there have been a few additions to the network since then (JLE, Wood Lane), so I need to add these to my collection. My...

Can anyone recommend some great Tube rides?

Try the Metropolitan from Harrow on the Hill into Baker Street. You get to ride on the oldest stock still in service, ('A' stock from 1960) and if it's a 'fast' service gives a 'lively' ride in a few places! It also runs parallel to the Jubilee line some of the way, so your lad will have the fun...

    1972 mkII stock

First post on here so, Hi everyone!:D On the Bakerloo the other day and I noticed a unit (3299 etc) that's numbers were out of sequence with the rest of the lines stock. I assume they are cars re-formed from spares as the middle end car was an UNDM not a DM. Does anyone know the original...
