    Grand Central trainee driver vacancies

I suppose it's quite attractive to people off the street but not so much for qualified drivers moving over. For me, it's a shame about the pension but if I get the job it's better than what I'm currently doing.

    Grand Central trainee driver vacancies

I've had a search through old threads on Grand Central and didn't manage to find anything recent about the recruitment process. Has anyone got any information about this? Thanks

A career as a train driver

The hearing test I had for a guard role was quite difficult and both of my ears are fine. You wear sound blocking headphones and sit in a booth and the tones they play are very quiet and are done one ear at a time. In all honesty I wouldn't get your hopes up but would have a go anyway, you have...

    Railway History

I'm currently trying to learn the Northern routes ready for future interviews but the number of different routes and destinations is quite overwhelming. Any advice on what to concentrate on? Maybe just a specific depots routes?

Well done on getting through and good luck with the assessments. Thanks for that update as well, that's the one I applied for and annoyingly that still says new application submitted even now.

I would not do that if I were you, don't put all your eggs in one basket. Got to whichever assessment centre invite you get first, then if you pass you can tell the other company that you've already passed.

    Driver or Customer service assistant

I assume you are talking about Northern. From my experience you seem to be able to have a customer service based application and a driver/conductor application in at the same time. I applied for a gateline job and conductor which was perfectly fine.

    Y2018/122 Driver Blackpool

I'm in the same boat as the two of you as well. What does your application status say on the online portal? Still new application submitted?

Has anyone else heard back at all/ got an interview?

    Y2018/122 Driver Blackpool

Ah good, I put in for the original advert for September rather than the second advert for May. Not heard anything myself and my application status still says new application submitted. Fingers crossed but if it's not to be I'll try again next time. Good luck with your interview, hope it goes well!

Wow! Is that for the May 18 start or September?

    ATW Trainee Drivers

Thanks to all of you for sharing that, it is good to know that you can progress even if out of the desired distance. That will encourage me to keep trying. I am sure my application was just not good enough, I will continue building experience and try again. Well done for getting through the...

    ATW Trainee Drivers

Well done to all of you who have got to the telephone interview! If anyone who lives outside of the allowed distance manages to get through, by saying they will relocate, can you please let us know. I never really know for sure where the TOCs stand on this. Cheers

Well after the blank emails I have just logged in to find my status is now unsuccessful after shortlisting. Ah well, maybe next time.

I put in for Chester too and have just had the two blank emails as well.

It also says that if anyone tries to complete the questionnaire more than once then the OPC will cancel all of them.

    Freightliner Various Trainee Drivers

It is quite clear in the advert that you must currently live within 60 mins of your chosen depot. I always see people saying they live further but will apply anyway. My question is, has anyone been successfull in doing this in a similar situation where it appears to be strictly 60 mins of your...

My status is still on submitted. I applied for Chester.

    HR team at Northern Rail.

When I have done these tests before, just as you have, I got an email after doing the numerical reasoning test saying I was successful. However, I did not get any email after the verbal resreasoning. I did some research on this forum and found this to be normal and it did not mean I had failed...

Junior Driver - DB Cargo UK

It says in the selection criteria "You live within a one hour commuting distance from your desired Hub location.". It then goes on to say "Please note that if you do not meet ALL of the above criteria your application will not be shortlisted." Still might be worth a try all the same.
