    Nottingham Tram Strikes

NCT will be very busy over the Goose Fair then. Do they normally provide an increased service on the yellow/lime/brown/purple lines over that weekend?

Creating an 'interchange' classification for stations

If you're spending money at smaller stations to 'increase signage and staffing to increase accessibility', you might as well spend that money making larger stations less intimidating to change at, although I'm not really sure thats an issue? Surely people would rather change at larger stations...

Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2

Wow, they've made a real mess of that. Rail Alphabet 2 used as the type on the signs, but the signs designed in the usual Abellio/Rail UK style. Then a completely different sign design for the platform signs using what looks to be NR Brunel for the type, which isn't the font used by TfWM.

New Logo for Northern Trains LTD

Shocking, and as you say, embarrassing that the OLR have paid that much for it if that’s the case.

Transport Select Committee 24 June - Including plans to centralise control of Railways

In terms of customer service, there's a reason BT moved all of their customer-facing contact centres back to the UK. Although I'd hazard a guess that most users of traditional ticket offices don't use machines because they don't know how to use them or find them confusing, so I suppose a...

Train branding after the Williams Review

I can see the regionalised/sectorised brands from franchises staying. People like to have their area represented, generally, by their TOC. Intercity operators not so much, by nature of their longer area. Like others have said, most recent generic brands are quite good, EMR, GWR, LNER spring to...

New Logo for Northern Trains LTD

I can assure you that the internal logo was not designed at 'great expense by some consultants'. Anyone with any graphic design knowledge can tell you the job looks extremely 'desktop-published' and was probably done on Microsoft word or by the Operator of Last Resort's graphics team in-house...

Should PRM 144012 remain in service?

Should be put in service on Thameslink. See how commuters in the south feel being treated like those in the north. ;)

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

You've not provided any evidence of them claiming legal enforcement. Or evidence of anything really...

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

Well you've still not provided any specific examples of what you're claiming is wrong. While the law may only apply in England, I assume TOCs are free to make their own policy regarding whether masks are required on the entirety of their network or not. For simplicity's sake I think they're...

    HS2: alternative names

The issue at the moment is that the focus is on speed - the often quoted 'London to Birmingham 20 minutes faster' line is just a way of summing up how a lot of people see the project. Most rail enthusiasts know that HS2 is actually about capacity, and segregating fast/slow services. Building on...

    Avanti West Coast rebrand

At least the DfT decision not to enforce NR-standard wayfinding signage provides a regular boost to local signwriters.

    Avanti West Coast rebrand

Totally agree, the whole brand I’m not a fan of. Particularly the ‘A with a triangle’ device. Also the use of curves on the station signs and literature when the brand is built around angles? Seems inconsistent at best.

    Avanti West Coast rebrand

I think even the British travelling public can probably discern that coach A would a coach at one end of the train rather than the centre. And that the logo belongs to the TOC, and is not informational signage since it’s rather below eye level.

    Coventry Station revamp

The planning application can be found here - there are several drawings that show this is basically a multi-storey car park being built on the western side of the station with a new footbridge and concourse underneath the car park. Not every station has to be an architectural masterpiece - but...

    Coventry Station revamp

The railways' lack of design and aesthetic strikes again - a lovely 1960s simple, refined station being topped off by what looks like a big red shipping container. Why would it be impossible to have continuity of architecture or design? It always seems to be impossible in a lot of projects.

Scotrail studded/textured yellow line on platforms, instead of tactiles.

I always thought that the tactile-tiles had two functions - a tactile warning detectable by long cane or underfoot, as well as a large contrasting band of colour visible to people with low vision, who might not be able to discern the edge of the platform, even with the thinner white line. While...

    Current best and worst livery

Some of the best to me are Transpennine Express, East Midlands Trains, GWR, new Greater Anglia, and Grand Central. I wish the original Virgin Trains Pendolino livery was in existence, same with GNER. The worst - Thameslink/Great Northern (DfT specified?) as well as Virgin flowing silk. Not a...

Should the Wales and Borders franchise be branded differently e.g. 'Wales & Borders'?

I believe the 'Better Rail Stations' report by Chris Green and Sir Peter Hall recommended uniform, non-branded signage across the network, albeit using network rail signage standards and their Brunel font rather than Rail Alphabet. Seems like a decent suggestion to me.

Should the Wales and Borders franchise be branded differently e.g. 'Wales & Borders'?

The whole TfW/TC brand system is really messy to me. How is anyone supposed to know whether they're dealing with TfW Rail/TrC Trenau rather than TfW/TC? And then people are told that KeolisAmey jointly operate the service and can make a profit but that TfW/TC isn't a profit making company, but...
