    Leeds Station Improvement

Anyone with any experience of the evening peak hour conditions on Platform 16 at Leeds will agree that it is better gone. What shocks me is the amount of time it took to remove it.

    Platform Zero at Leeds

I believe, broadly, this was the basis of the franchise specs.

    Platform Zero at Leeds

The latest published Enhancements Delivery Plan (Sept 2019) provides some basic facts on the project: https://cdn.networkrail.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Enhancements-Delivery-Plan-October-2019.pdf See the project listed as 'LNE001b' - Leeds Station Capacity Improvements. The entry...

Poor Northern excuse regarding platform length constraints delaying introduction of longer trains

I don't think that there will be a parallel cut in frequency of the semi-fasts on Leeds - Wakefield Kirkgate - Barnsley - Sheffield though - will still be half hourly, with alternates running beyond Sheffield to Lincoln. May be wrong.

Poor Northern excuse regarding platform length constraints delaying introduction of longer trains

Item 9 on the agenda here partly deals with the issues relating to platform constraints on train lengths at Leeds: https://westyorkshire.moderngov.co.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=138&MId=851

    Leeds Station Improvement

Looks like a very welcome improvement overall. Having been away for just over a week I'm surprised at the progress that has been made! Thanks for the photos--looking forwards to seeing this for real next week. Roof renewal money well spent.

Was on this service. Had plenty of dwell time at York - lots of Scarborough day trippers got off. Not too busy overall, as still in holiday period. For unclear reasons failed to make a right time departure from York and then went down hill from there. Missed path and then got stuck stuck behind...

    Leeds Station Improvement

The refurbished toilets on the South Concourse are now open for business and the last of the scaffolding boards has come down overnight to reveal the full extent of the replaced roof. Stange to see so much daylight in there after such a long period as a cave. Looks good. Sorry no pic.

Noticed today some of the scaffolding had been dismantled to reveal part of the renewed South Concourse roof. Its the section closest to ticket barriers. Looking good. Light flooding in. Sorry no pics.

The material is due to be Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) - in other words plastic , as per the new bit of roof at Manchester Victoria. Details here : https://www.networkrail.co.uk/feeds/let-there-be-light-plans-announced-for-new-transparent-roof-at-leeds-railway-station/

    LNER Azuma (Class 800/801)

The video from the press launch here illustrates the buffet counter well (from around 4:50) - and is quite interesting generally. Includes a cameo from Roger Ford early on administering his fist of quality... Edit: I've just spotted this video was also shared by camflyer at post #1229, but it...

    LNER Azuma (Class 800/801)

Guardian is correct (sort of) -- it refers to the fact the power supply upgrades will not be completed until later in 2021. The top end of the ECML will not be capable of running all the trains in electric mode. Therefore some will have to in diesel mode until the upgrade is compete.

So, the standstill period ended, and Abellio has now been confirmed. Their press release does not give much more away at this stage though: https://www.abellio.com/news/ps600-million-improvements-east-midlands-railway-abellio-confirmed Key quotes (Which includes the one RealTrains07 posted a...

    Northern Class 331: Construction/Introduction Updates

I reckon that's more or less it. Although I think the plan remains for the 321/322 fleet to go off-lease as planned in the coming months, so we'll see the 4-car 331s on Airedale and Wharfedale services to supplement the core 333 pool sooner rather than later. It appears to be December 2021 at...

    Leeds station overall roof

It seemed really bright and airy when it was built--the 60s shed was much darker. A clean would make a big difference.

    Leeds station overall roof

I remember going to an organised site visit during the Leeds 1st project back in 2000, where the team were proudly announcing how the new overall roof was going to be really easy to clean, hence the white tubular structure. I'm not sure that it's been cleaned once since completion.
