Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

Spring has a ~27kWh battery. Charging at 100kW would be nearly 4C. It would overheat the pack. They are likely using passive cooling. That has to be why DC charging is limited to 30kW. For long distances take the train. The UK Spring is new car. It has almost nothing in common with...

    What does this symbol mean?

Ahhhh. Changing at Newport at 5pm on a Friday.. Hilarious. Thanks to all for the information.

    What does this symbol mean?

I came across an unfamilair symbol when looking for tickets from Bangor(BNG) to Cardiff Central(CDF). It is at the bottom of the 13:00 departure. It shows up on the tfw.wales website but not on the app or the printed timetable. What does it mean? Image description: the symbol shows a...

Is there any valid reason to why Chester is not electrified (ignoring P7)

I couldn't agree more. I've looked at the Welsh Government draft budget for next year. We don't have the money. If we did it would be better spent elsewhere.

Is there any valid reason to why Chester is not electrified (ignoring P7)

Anglesey resident and frequent train user. TfW are renewing the fleet. Yea. With DMUs. boo. Running wires between Chester and Crewe would be expensive. A large number of bridges would need to be raised or replaced. Wiring Chester to Crewe doesn't make buisness sense unless you run wires...

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

There are pleanty of low milage 2022 EVs on Autotrader for less than £16,000. Tesla are opening up the SuperCharger network to all EVs. Back in August 25 locations were open all. I don't bother keeping track. I know Aberystwth, Flint Mountain, Trafford Centre (Manchester), and Carmarthen...

ULEZ - Plans (and would you have to pay?)

From comments on another forum older, used car dealers say low priced "essential" cars are all that are selling well at the moment. Prices on near-new electric cars have dropped considerably. I've seen several 2022 Vauxhall Corsa-e on AutoTrader for under £15,000, a 2022 Renult Zoe under...

HS2 Manchester leg scrapped: what should happen now?

Indeed. It was replaced by the Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act 2022 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2022/11/contents/enacted

    HS2 Old Oak Common

Interchange station is still on. It is near the NEC and Birmingham Airport. There is supposed to be a people mover to connect Interchange to the NEC and airport. Will Euston and the Manchester stations be cut? Maybe. Probably. Lots of rumours. Nothing from government yet. There...

What is the Optimum Length of a Heritage Railway?

The 5 mile, 60-minute round-trip Llanberis Lake Railway is close to ideal. The fare is £10 return for one adult or £28 for two adults and two children. The journey has good views and is always steam hauled. It is possible to disembark mid way for a bit of an explore and either catch...

ULEZ - Plans (and would you have to pay?)

Used prices have come down more then many people are aware of. For example a 2020 Peugoet is advertised on Autotrader for £13,955. This is a comfortable car with decent single charge range. At the bottom end you can pick up a 10 year old Nissan LEAF with enough range for everyday trips...

ULEZ - Plans (and would you have to pay?)

I don't own a car. Debbie's Mazda is complient and would not have to pay a ULEZ fee. In the 16 years we've lived in the UK, I've driven in greater London exactly twice. Both were test drives in prototype or just introduced electric cars.

TFW To Shake Up Rail Timetables

That is being generous. I've only had the "pleasure" of a couple of rides on the ex Northern 150s. They are horrific. The rest of the 197s can't come into service too soon.

    TfW 175 shortages

I had a miserable ride on ex Northern 150270 with 2+3 seating. Has to be more seats then the rest of the 150 fleet. TfW must be desperate to put that into long distance service.

    TfW 175 shortages

67022 has been parked at Bangor for about a month. I've been told there is a fault with the brakes.

    TfW 175 shortages

175009 this morning on 1V94 the 0805 Hollyhead to Cardiff service. I cycled to work on Tuesday, but Real Time Trains say 197007 operated 1V94 but only as far as Chester. I spotted 197007 at Bangor heading towards Cardiff (1V98) around 17:00 filling in for what is nominally a Mark 4+Class...

Which type of train still in service today will you miss most when they've all been withdrawn from use on the national network?

One would imagine 67 + Mark 4 has a long time to go with TfW. Did I miss an annoucement or thread? I know reliability has not been great.

    TfW 175 shortages

I last saw 002 at Bangor on 3 March 2023. It was being towed south by 004. No passengers on-board the the motor in the rear coach was locked off. This is also the last sighting on Trainlogger. My guess is it came off lease no earlier then 3 March.
