Dismal Stations Which Give A Poor First Impression Of The Town They Serve

I had to pick somebody up from a cancelled train at Banbury. I know nothing about Banbury, didn’t get to see the town centre but the station itself and surrounding area were quite grotty and unwelcoming. It’s a 1950s affair, which though unattractive compared to older stations can sometimes have...

    Worst UK train?

700s. The near identical 717 is fine for the suburban routes they work, but the 700 is not suitable for the long distance stuff to Peterborough, Cambridge and even Bedford. Not to mention South Coast destinations. I’m just under six foot and my legs don’t fit behind the seats so have to sit...

    Class 315 Withdrawals

    Class 710 LO

Pair of 710s running down the Chingford Line currently. Didn’t catch the numbers. Guess they are testing?

    Class 315 Withdrawals

Nice to know I’m not seeing things!

    Class 315 Withdrawals

Saw a 315 and 317/8 formation heading down to Chingford today, crossing the marsh. In 30 years of living on this line that’s the first time I’ve ever seen these classes working together.

    Class 315 Withdrawals

I believe that divide existed at least back to the start of privatisation. Prior to that under NSE there were definitely a batch that carried West Anglia logos rather than the majority being GE. I think those were the same units 848 to 861, though happy to be corrected. I don’t know where the WA...

    Class 315 Withdrawals

I am slowly starting to realise that I will miss these trains a lot once the 710s have wiped them out, I can’t believe their time is nearly up

    Class 315 Withdrawals

Been about 15 years now since the First Great Eastern / WAGN divide in the fleet. IIRC the old west Anglia sets were 848 to 861 with nearly all of them in different WAGN/advertising liveries. When ONE came in and mixed the fleets I was hoping to catch an FGE liveried set on west Anglia but I...

    Class 717 door failure.

I noticed that going southbound the rear carriage doors were not opening at stations between Bowes Park and Harringay, even though the car is all well within the platform lengths. Result: passengers frantically running around outside looking for an unlocked set of doors, but nice empty carriage...

TRIVIA/OPINION - Which is the dullest stretch of railway in the British Isles?

Liverpool st to Hackney is fascinating as the city skyline is forever changing and so are the buildings around the railway. Have to agree with ECML for the most part. Chiltern/LUL route between Finchley Road and Northwood really bothers me too.

    Ticket collection folder

Hi, Not sure if this is the right section to start this thread so please move if it's not. I have been collecting BR orange train tickets since about 1994 from all my journeys on the railways. As you can imagine I now have quite a collection! They are stuffed in envelopes wrapped by eleastic...

    Current best and worst livery

Actually a huge fan of the new South Western Railway colours. Such a break from the ott stagecoach liveries, which now look very 2000s and dated. Similarly GWR green is another favourite, it really suits the electrostars. Least favourite current (not outgoing) livery would have to be the...

    Ugliest Train in the UK?

Would have to agree with those that have said the class 374 and with this very similar thing above. As said they both look like kids toys. Who remembers BRIO?

Help! Any options in France but OuiGo?

Thanks for this Charly. I had previously searched from all Lyon stations on the SNCFs website but it does seem I needed to specifically select part dieu station. This will save me quite a few hours of hanging around an airport!

Help! Any options in France but OuiGo?

Hi everyone. Owing to Ryanair kindly cancelling their route to Marseille from May31st and subsequently cancelling my flight, I now have to fly to Lyon and make my own way down to Marseille. I would arrive at Lyon Exupery airport at 14:00 - just missing the 14:12 OuiGo service to Marseille...

    Class 321 in Barbie livery

So there is, thanks for that

    Class 321 in Barbie livery

Amongst various Class 321 cars at Doncaster last week I noticed a 321 driving car in First Barbie colours with 'First Great Eastern' along the side. I don't recall FGE 321's ever carrying this livery - as far as I remember they went strait from the original FGE green blue and grey into either...
