Which train company brand names does the public know and use, and why?

That's an interesting point about UK users seeing trains as generally for domestic travel. I've never actually used Eurostar so I might be wrong about this, but the 'system' seems to (deliberately?) encourage passengers to see Eurostar as a separate transport mode - for example, I don't think...

Which train company brand names does the public know and use, and why?

My feeling is that most people consider Eurostar to be a separate mode of transport to the rest of the rail network, so comparing it to TOCs such like LNER or South Eastern probably doesn't make sense to the public in some ways. I suspect people say they'd take "the Eurostar" in the same way...

Trivia — Shortest Routes Between Stations of the Same Name (For Example: Catford to Catford Bridge)

Hammersmith (H&C) -> Hammersmith (District) via Paddington, Liverpool Street, Monument, Earl's Court (there's also Paddington (H&C) -> Paddington (District) via a similar route but I guess they count as being on the same line these days!)

    Trivia: Overlapping station names

Though it doesn't meet the criteria completely of one station name being completely contained in another, it seems worth mentioning the TransPennine Express services that call at all four of: Manchester Airport, Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Oxford Road, Manchester Victoria.

    Ticket question with delay repay

Thanks for all your advice on this one! I'll put in a claim and see what happens. That's an interesting point you make, though, @Belperpete - I'm not sure what the rules are but I can see how that could be argued. The reason I delayed buying the ticket was that I was considering catching...

Thanks! I guess you're right about the evidence - and that's a useful tip about the date and time of issue.

    Ticket question with delay repay

Hi all, A bit of a random one - I was travelling back from Leeds to York last Friday (13th) and wanted to get the 23:23 TPE service. When I got to Leeds station (on time) I saw that this train was quite delayed (>30 mins) so for various reasons not worth going into decided to wait for a bit...

    Pains on Trains

I saw a 'pain on a train' when I was travelling on Friday. He was sat in a window seat eating an orange, but when he finished the orange he placed the orange peel on the aisle seat next to him. The train was quite busy and at one station a lot of people got on. Despite the fact that many...

Doors closing - your views on the behaviour of a guard

It certainly looked as though the man was pushed, but it did happen rather quickly and I was in a hurry so I can't say for sure. It may also be that the guard simply stuck an arm out in self-defense. The man who had attempted to board the train stood there until the train finally pulled away...

Doors closing - your views on the behaviour of a guard

Hi, I've been a member of these forums for a while and used to post but haven't done for years - so I doubt any of you will remember me! Anyway, I was at Birmingham New Street a few weeks ago and saw a man try and jump on to a train (I think it was a CrossCountry Voyager, but the details are...

    WCML today. Please help.

Sorry to bump the thread four days on, but just to say thanks to the guys that tried to help me. Incidentally, the journey time is 10 - 15 minutes by train from Rugby to Coventry, but can be up to 40 minutes - so do you think they would have been run at similar times? (considering that they...

    WCML today. Please help.

Hi guys, thanks for your help. I sort of know whats going on (I know there are buses going Northampton - Long Buckby - Rugby - Coventry) but nowhere can I find the timetable. It's very poor customer service. Thanks anyway Jonny

    WCML today. Please help.

Nowhere on the web seems to have acknowledged that it is only buses from Rugby today. The national rail enquiries site displays trains in the journey planner, Live Departure Boards seem to know nothing about it, Network Rail's site doesnt say anything, and none of the call centres seem to be...

    What a journey....

The moral of the story is to stop being an arrogant **** and sometimes accept travel in standard class like everyone else.
