Sheffield Supertram & Tram Train news

I noticed Apple Maps was missing the data and Google Maps doesn't show the coloured transit lines anymore. Looks like Apple Maps has the times now though but Google Maps still doesn't have the lines. As an aside, it's about time they gave the Tram Train a coloured line. Nobody in the public...

Tap in/tap out debit card linked to your railcard?

Apple Pay and Google Pay support automatic presentation of a contactless pass with a payment card. The barriers could be set to request a railcard with payment if one is available in the mobile wallet. I think there would probably need to be some work done on Apple's side to support pass...

    Ticket Barrier Blues

I had this at the Thameslink barriers at St Pancras the other day. I did have a railcard but annoyingly didn't see the reason code!

Sheffield Supertram & Tram Train news

Yeah fair enough, I don't suppose I meant integrated, I just want pay as you go with automatic capping. I often buy a day tramrider anticipating further journeys and then don't actually utilise it. I just want to be able to use public transport and get charged the cheapest possible price. I've...

Sheffield Supertram & Tram Train news

I don't think Stagecoach will have had much financial; incentive for the past year or so to maintain things to a high standard so were probably focussed on maximising profits. Controversially, I don't mind them getting rid of conductors if it enables more integrated ticketing. It will also...

Reducing the risk of people using expired Railcards by accident

I wonder if they could use the underutilised NFC passes in both - the user could present their ticket to the conductors reader or barrier, tap their phone, and then the reader could automatically request the Railcard pass as well. No idea if that would work though.

Reducing the risk of people using expired Railcards by accident

This could be sorted by allowing people to put their railcards in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

Should USB-C ports be fitted to trains?

This is definitely true of the phones and to a lesser extent the tablets, but Apple went in hard on USB-C on their laptops much earlier than any other company.

Class 399 Tram Train Derails on Day 1 of Service in Sheffield

Doesn't really help that The Stir are reporting it as if it actually has anything to do with the tram train opening today. Just poor timing. The trams have been running on the network for the best part of a year and the collision wasn't even on the national rail network.

Misleading reporting by BBC News' Richard Westcott: Rail Nationalisation

Didn't East Coast do really well though? Forgive me if this is a stupid question, I'm kind of new to the whole train thing.
