    Cars and owner stereotypes

We owned our 2012 Superb for quite some time & we really did enjoy it but we only have garage space for 2 cars.

    Cars and owner stereotypes

I had a Mk 2 Superb Elegance (2.0 TSi, tweaked to 249 BHP) for nearly 9 years & we both miss the thing. It was much more fun to drive than you would expect & could cruise at a quite decent speed in Germany....

    Which tramways have you used?

I'm old enough to have ridden the trams in the last tram week in London. Apart from that, many, many years later I've ridden the street cars (& cable cars) in San Fransisco, Light Rail in San Diego, the electric commuter trains, the subways, light rail & trams in Philadelphia. Boston light rail...

    Cars and owner stereotypes

Not unusual, but I used to own a 2012 2.0 TSi Elegance (for 8+ years), tweaked to 252 ps, quite nippy & reasonable to run too..... Not common though, only circa 150 sold in the UK in that year

    HTM Tram route 1A.

My 1st visit to NL was in summer 1970, staying in Amsterdam but using public transit there & Den Haag. The local / city buses were maroon & grey, with 2-speed automatic transmissions, possibly they were DAF's? The interurban buses were nicer, always yellow, mostly semi-automatic 4 speed boxes...

    HTM Tram route 1A.

Thanks for the info. Back in the day when I was staying with family (in Rijswijk), the 10 tram was a useful link to Voorburg station. I'd imagine that the 23 bus would do the same journey, but the tram was a nicer ride than the DAF buses.... DC

    HTM Tram route 1A.

I've just been watching a Youtube video of an unusual tram route in Den Haag (Friday evening, 24.03.2023), numbered 1A. It runs from on the route of line 1 through Den Haag but it turns left in Rijswijk to the old (out of service but usable still) 10 line route to Voorburg Station & it was...

Greater Anglia Bombardier Aventras (Class 720): Technical discussion and introduction

I was surprised today (Thursday 16.02.'23) to see two 10 car 720's at South Woodham (down & up of course, both sets cross each other at the North Fambridge loop). Since the bay platforms at Wickford can't cope with 10-car trains, where were they originating from? Any info would be welcome.....

Network Rail makes new offer to the RMT union

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure why a local service from Stalybridge to Manchester Piccadily via Guide Bridge is useful unless it's routed to Oxford Road & beyond....

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I've just read the MR piece & there's a short statement on page 57, in the "TRU: Route-Wide Benefits" column, stating that, "Improvement of capacity at Manchester Victoria by extending electric local services to Stalybridge & Guide Bridge." Does this translate that the line between Stalybridge...

    Class 321 storage/scrapping

I did note that both units were 321's at South Woodham on Friday 20.01.'23. (15 44 eastbound & 1556 westbound.) Yesterday, (Saturday 21st) same times & location but both units were 720's. HTH, David C.

GWR Class 769 information. (Units no longer with GWR - Off Lease March 23)

'Tis not really relevant but back in June 2003 I managed to take a triangular round trip from Montreal (Dorval) & the 1st leg (to Ottawa) was a GE P42DC loco (908) & a rake of Renaissance ex. Chunnel Night Star seated, (not sleeper) cars. The 2nd leg from Ottawa to Brockville was another GE...

    Best Car You've Ever Owned

We've had 5 DSG cars, (all 2.0 TSi engines) & we've never felt the need to thrash them.... 1670459069 Two Golf R's (Mk. 7 DSG), hatchback & an estate, but a very is close 3rd would be a Mk. 2 Skoda Superb, 2.0 TSi DSG. Very much a sleeper, easy to live with & real space inside. I ran it for 8+...

New York - day trip suggestions

Amtrak to Philly is quicker but these is (was) a much cheaper combined fare using NJ Transit to Trenton, connecting to a SEPTA train to Philly. If you are a railfan Philly has many transit modes, 2 & 4 track subways (tram & train), elevated railway, electric suburban trains, rural trams, & a...

Abellio Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

In the October "Modern Railways" (page 8) there is mention of the class 755 powerpack overheating problems. All of the 124 Deutz V8 diesel engines are to be replaced. I'm wondering if the replacements will be new &/or refurbished Deutz V8's, or some other make / model?

    Class 321 storage/scrapping

The Southminster branch see's some 321 workings. The Monday-Friday evg. from Liv.St to Southminster is usually a single 720, which stays on the branch, forming the last up train (through to Liv. St.). This displaces one of the early evening 321's which works in service to Shenfield. (The branch...

Why are Class 90s used in pairs?

Siemens / Krauss-Maffei built a batch of 13 6-axle E-Loks for freight service between Germany & Denmark / Sweden. They are bi-voltage loks, 15 & 25 kV, numbered EG 3101 to 3113. Allowed to run at 140 k/mh max & rated at 6500 kW, (to cope with the gradients in/on the Great Belt's tunnels & bridges).
