Are airline style seats the way forward?

Moderator note split from: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/southern-class-313-twilight.231486/ Airline style seats should be the way forward.

How do different types of 387s differ from each other? (and from 377s)

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the 387s have never been badged specially as Southern, they were borrowed from GEX for a few months. I think you may mean 377/6/7 which look identical to their 387 counterparts.

    Electrostars an underrated train?

I'm completely with you on this. Can't get my head round the fact there are some people out there that don't like them yet they'll happily admit to liking the soulless, uncomfortable and dull 700s.

Question about Southern class 377/2 diagrams

Very odd to see a 377/4 coupled with a 377/6, just shows how much better the /4s are in comparison.

    Southern Class 455 Withdrawal

You think. I can now happily turn up at a southern station and know I'm never going to get on a 455 ever again.

    Southern Class 455 Withdrawal

Absolutely no way are Southern's 455s are better both for comfort and general ride are better than the SWR's 455s. They are a miles apart including the seating arrangement. I'm more upset about the demise of SWRs 455s than I'll ever will the Southern ones.

Crossrail - Construction updates and progress towards opening (now expected 24 May 2022)

Personallt , 1651963938 My point being, seeing as the Shenfield branch isn't part of the partial opening, that sign is deceiving, it states you can get a train to Heathrow or Reading from Stratford making out it's a direct service with no changes. Not only that, its sign states 'Elizabeth Line'...

Crossrail - Construction updates and progress towards opening (now expected 24 May 2022)

Based on the partial opening of the line, which as we know, at this stage is only between Abbey Wood and Paddington, not including the section from Shenfield under the tunnel at Stratford, how come these signs are already up at Stratford?

Are there any remaining trains with slam doors?

    Much appreciated, thank you.

Are there any remaining trains with slam doors?

What services do they remain please?

Are there any remaining trains with slam doors?

Love that last comment. Brilliant. I really miss that sound of the slam doors, the scenes of busy commenter trains pulling into platforms and the doors flying open whilst the train is still moving. Those days. Now we just have the crud’s of soulless, characterless 700s. 1634929204 :D:D:D

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Agreed x1000. Well said. 1634919672 I’m finding myself agreeing with you again and the exact same thing about ‘loud fans’ was going through my mind. Of course the response “can tell you’re not a driver” but not yet had anyone able to answer a reasonable question.

Southeastern to be taken over by OLR

I see. Thanks for the explanation.

Southeastern to be taken over by OLR

Why is this the case? Can’t Southern just train their own employees to work this route?

Harlow Local Plan - proposed Central Line extension

Never in a million years will this happen. As if it wasn’t already unlikely, it’s even moreso now as TfL are skint. Zero chance.

    Class 321 storage/scrapping

Having not been on the GEML which seems like an age, it’s looking now like the 321’s (non-renatus) are becoming more and more sparse :frown: and I’ve seen at least 3 coupled renatus’s.

Greater Anglia Bombardier Aventras (Class 720): Technical discussion and introduction

Barely any different to the 3+2 seating on the 377s to be honest and they’ve been around for 20 odd years.
