Paris Metro tickets for sale on E*, TGV and AVE...

I’d imagine that like the current “ticket t+” there would be a 2hr time limit from entering to leaving the system per journey. For the type of fares permissible, it is implied that the Navigo Easy will only allow non-season type tickets and zonal tickets/caps similar to the current Navigo e.g...

Paris Metro tickets for sale on E*, TGV and AVE...

As much as I can sympathise with your position as cross-Paris journeys can be a pain and the stations are among the least hospitable in Europe for sure, I cannot understand how the ticket machines, which all have an English option and are everywhere, are more difficult than having to engage in a...

    Booking fee for FIP travel

Ah, that makes sense then! If the OP had a coupon and the requested train had availability, then yes.

    Booking fee for FIP travel

Yes, that seems right in terms of the reservation fee but that is not a ticket to travel on. In your case, the coupon acts as the ticket so you’re ok but if you don’t have that coupon, you can’t usually travel on the reservation fee alone. However, many SNCF colleagues only travel on reservation...

    Booking fee for FIP travel

Then you were very lucky as they've charged you the SNCF colleague equivalent of a FIP rate, not the actual FIP international fare. Given how rare it is for ticket office staff to see these (given that most SNCF staff do not use their FIPs internally, and many rail colleagues from neighbouring...

TRIVIA/OPINION - Which is the dullest stretch of railway in the British Isles?

Interesting thread, agree & disagree with many. My most dull would be (echoing fellow comments)... 1. Paris to Lille LGV 2. Piccadilly line Acton Town - Hatton Cross/Sudbury Town 3. Northampton Loop on WCML 4. Paris to Le Mans/Angoulême via LGV 5. Majority of GEML

Unlooping the Sutton Loop: Thameslink vs Tramlink

TfL are taking plans to boost the Sutton to Wimbledon public transport corridor to consultation stage. There are three proposals for consultation: options 1 and 2 would be either a new tram or dedicated articulated bus route from Sutton Station to St Helier then either Morden Road Tramlink and...

    Frankfurt

Seconded, my thoughts exactly! I'd only add that... exciting as the above is, you can do all of that in 48 hours max. I would recommend Cologne (given its proximity to other NRW area cities), Strasbourg (a personal favourite plus has almost every mode of transport in an array of languages) and...

'Transport Secretary to pull Automated Announcements off Platforms

To be fair to TL, they do have two voices, a male one and a female one, on alternate platforms at each of their stations from the core up to Bedford. As for the route numbering, that would be ok for the "proper" TL routes, which have mostly had consistent stopping patterns even in peak hours but...

'Transport Secretary to pull Automated Announcements off Platforms

I’m not in favour of this at all. Almost every country with a comparable rail network has automated announcements, so I’m not convinced there is an endemic problem. Some of the announcements about cycling or minding steps/gaps can be a bit overkill and these should be reviewed though. This...

    SSR resignalling

10tph Watford seems massive though, but I imagine it’s more for operational convenience compared to other potential reversal points than demand. I have also seen media around this and although I use the WCML far more than the Met line, I certainly believe re-introducing off-peak fasts is needed.

RTT - St Albans Abbey Branch Line

My point exactly! I think there must have been some tinkering as that data cannot be correct. It would be impossible to do the branch in 3 mins as recorded there for instance. What I saw may have been a minute or two out judging by my phone or CIS clock but I promise you it was more accurate.

    SSR resignalling

That would seem excessive to me unless they are peak frequencies and all of the Amersham/Cheshams are fast and all of the Watfords semi-fast.

RTT - St Albans Abbey Branch Line

I always find Realtime Trains reliable, so I wondered if anyone could clear up what happened with data from Friday? Mid-afternoon, I checked the NR app which was showing each journey at around 16 mins late, a rarity as trains are either bang in time or cancelled on the line given the 16 mins...

    White Knuckle Bus Ride

I'd certainly agree with you and would also mention the 18 Canterbury-Hythe. Although it was more entertaining with a clapped out Olympian, any bus which goes through a timing point at 'Wheelbarrow Town' will be somewhat of an excursion.

Impending closure of the Paddington to South Ruislip direct route

This arrangement seems to mean the Greenford shuttle turns around in the West Ealing bay whilst the Chiltern unit is sat there on a longer turn-around. I didn't think this type of permissive working would be possible, it would be interesting to see if any unassuming locals end up in High Wycombe...

How do they decide the order in which to despatch late trains

Only the signaller or service manager/controller will be 100% sure, but looking at RTT I would imagine it's because they needed platform 10 (the Nottingham train's platform) more urgently than yours. An incoming delayed LM would just have been on the approach at that time so they must have...

[Trivia] Frequent Or Long Bus Services That Don’t Cross (Passenger) Railway Lines

For frequent, I'd suggest all of the town services in Harlow and Hemel Hempstead and for long-distance, I'd struggle given the density of lines in the South East, the only ones I can think of are 46 Hemel Hempstead-Luton and 505 Harlow-Chingford.
