So can the train split websites recommendation of Preston to Wigan Wigan to Crewe Crewe to Shrewsbury with a full fare adult off-peak day return travelling 10th July of approx £ 35 be improved on?

Quick update on this.... asked for an excess on a Standard Anytime singoe London Euston to Preston ticket to First Off-Peak single.... Won't mention station.... Was asked...would you like to reserve a seat on a particular train? Ok no charge just keep the tickets together 30 seconds....not...

I meant route/TOC. So not valid on TPE then? I was misled by the new ticket saying Any Permitted route then! I would have expected it to say VT only... cost me that....should have known better tbf.

I've read lots of discussions but can't find definitive answer to this- Advance VT only ticket excessed to Off-Peak Single (Route Any Permitted printed on ticket) Is the new ticket valid on any permitted route or VT only? Thanks, Premier01

Thanks all... I opted to curtail my trip to Poulton by a few hours as bus via Blackpool or taxi not worth it, so got last train. I bought ticket from TVM at Preston at about 2pm and first heard was on board announcement-sure when I checked online a week before they were running trains till...

Erm maybe because I've not used Northern Rail on Saturday for about 5 months now

So just boarded train to Poulton-le-fylde to discover last train back to Preston is around 18.40 due to industrial action. Are Northern supposed to provide bus replacements or am I stuck with early train home or paying myself for alternative way home?

It is because of the new systems...discussed further up this thread. Still not acceptable imho in a world of nationally consistent tickets and sales offering.

Update....needed to change a VTWC Advance ticket the other day, which VTWC will no longer do if not bought from VTWC directly. Asked at London Kings Cross and was done within 1 minute by friendly ticket sales advisor. Makes no sense at all as to this change VTWC have implemented.

Chorley and Leyland both have Northern run booking offices as at last month.

Sounds ideal... any stations in Lancashire which operate this system, guessing not VT- Avocet? and Northern- Star? Not sure any other TOCs run stations here.

That's something as often have cause to do this with travel plans changing. Though there will still be lost revenue for those wanting Advance to Advance changes.

Thanks for the insight...makes sense now that effectively the original ticket is refunded and a new ticket issued. I would have thought there was a system in place for simple refunds to check where the ticket was purchased from so guess this is the process used now for changes to Advance...

Is it physically possible to change/excess a non VT ticket office Advance to another Advance with the new system or does tge system flag/prevent the transaction? How does the system or the staff know where the ticket was purchased from?

Do we think there is anything that I can quote relating to passenger rights to impartial and open service? Clearly my complaint will be about the corporate policy that is highly inconvenient and been slipped in under the radar, rather than the VT ticket staff. The first advisor shouldn't be...
