Euston overcrowding at TfL/LU entrance caused by new Network Rail departure boards

I thought it was for night tube actually, so the underground could be open when the station was closed

PM2.5 is lower than outside air in newer trains

For those asking what this means here is my attempt at a summary, hopefully not too patronising: You can think of this as being about dust. Normal dust in a house varies from around 1 micrometre to 400 micrometres in size. A micrometre is 1000 times smaller than a millimetre, to give an idea a...

Storm Isha may affect your journey in parts of England, Scotland and Wales on Sunday 21 and Monday 22 January

Looks like the last Manchester train got caught behind it 2 hours ago and has been stuck since

Storm Isha may affect your journey in parts of England, Scotland and Wales on Sunday 21 and Monday 22 January

I understand from the conductor of our train that this is a nationwide restriction

    Manchester Metrolink

My understanding is the new substation is a way off still. I know some work was carried out but seems to have fairly ground to a halt and not restarting imminently?

Licensing Act 2003 and Free Water on Trains: What Are the Rules?

I've heard a similar story of the Humber Ferry being particularly popular during the afternoon with locals who rode backwards and forwards drinking until the pubs reopened

How off-putting is it to change trains in GB - from rail regulars via 'normals' to OAPs to foreign visitors?

I would expect that a lot of people have one change already in most journeys due to having to change from bus / tube / tram / car / very local train service at the station. That means that a single change rail journey could often be a two change overall journey which is a lot less appealing...

    Off peak Apsley to Stockport

Hi, I'm traveling from Apsley to Stockport on Monday afternoon leaving around 1740. I had understood that an off peak ticket wouldn't be valid, restriction 9I, due to the evening peak on trains out of Euston. However NRE seems to be showing off-peak single available on any afternoon train...

    Ah, sounds like chaos. Thanks

Disruption at Morpeth 20th February 2023

What exactly happened at Morpeth? I saw National Rail said signalling failure and someone above mentioned points. Do national rail cover points, signals, etc all within their 'signalling failure' category? Was it anything wind related as well?

    Flixbus Discussion

We've booked the flixbus from London to Birmingham at midnight on Saturday night and just had a text from them today saying we'll have to change buses at Leicester. Any idea what's happening there? Are they trying to combine services due to light loadings or something?

    Theft of Signalling Cable

Worked recently in an area of Liverpool where trough routes of cables had been filled with concrete around the cables as theft had been so bad. An effective solution to stop sticky fingers but you can imagine how much more awkward any work to replace, repair or run new cables or troughing is.

    Electrification for overruns

I don't know about the specific locations you mention but typically at junctions it is provided for a short distance for overrun protection in case of wrong route as you hypothesise. The driver maybe should challenge the route but it makes things a lot easier if there is some mistake.

That lat/long gives grid reference TQ489878.

Sentinel card when leaving a company.

Don't return your card. It doesn't belong to your employer and you will need it in your new job.

My idea to give the government more control over open access operators

This idea sounds like it would allow private companies to cherry pick the profit making areas of the network whilst leaving the government to pick up the tab for the loss making areas. Difficult to see how that would offer good value for taxpayers.

When first installed they were set off accidentally a few times by p-way waving a shovel near them...

What is this track cabling and yellow box? (Photo)

You are quite correct it is an axle counter. The yellow box is sometimes called a 'mushroom' informally.
