Arriva accused of 'massive rail fail' after 150 passengers unable to board packed tra

I picked up the next train at a request stop over anglesey, and lightly loaded. Over the holidays, you have to expect sometimes that you have to wait a couple of hours for a train. Sorry, but that's the reality of rail travel, everyone wants to travel at the same time.

ATW to Rebrand Gerald Premier Service

Can I be selfish and point out the amount of times my local stopper to Holyhead is delayed behind the late running Wag. I love the good old loco hauled trains, but enough already.

    Declined cards

OK, well as it happens, I have had a letter from my bank informing me that they are charging back a swiped transaction as the vendor failed to follow their offline agreement (it was over 20 pounds), and they suggest that I contact the vendor (TOC) directly, but they may re submit the charge...

    Train guard swearing ?

I don't curse in the workplace, but there's a couple of times something slipped out when you drop something on your toe or something, that's just human and people seem to understand that.

    Electronic Cigarettes on trains

I use mine on the train all the time, but there is always plenty of empty air for me to occupy in this part of the world. On the few occasions I am seated close to someone else i tend not to use it, just as pure etiquette. But for those who really want to use them I would suggest to do so the...

    Bizarre Experience on East Coast

the one guard who does always check, and make sure he sells everyone a ticket is the nicest and most helpful one on the route. Even though, most of the time he tries to held someone out and save them some money it just falls on deaf and perhaps dumb ears.

    Bizarre Experience on East Coast

I'm sure it's more than that .. there are many times i've bought the return fare at the destination ticket office and they seem astonished that i didn't just buy a single on the way home.

    Bizarre Experience on East Coast

in terms of trying to buy a fare, I travelled from a request stop, to my destination with my railcard and full cash fare on the table in front of me for an hour. The guard ignored me, and the cash and we arrived at our destination. Line at the ticket office, train is delayed, am late for the...

    High Speed Two (HS2) discussion

I may have missed something, but in none of the so-called business plans for HS2 does it account for the damage HS2 will do to the 1st Class market on the WCML, which will surely drastically change virgin's business model. Any thoughts?

Letting passengers off a broken down train- is this impossible?

Unless i was late for my own wedding, I wouldn't consider using an emergency release to leave the train .. but sitting there that long, you'd better believe I am smoking.

    TOCs being anti bike?

Bikes should be carried at a special freight rate at maybe 3x passenger fare. You love your bike so much, why are you on a train???

    High Speed Two (HS2) discussion

Realistically it was never even alive. Even the most optimistic business plans for HS2 would be swamped by the costs of borrowing the money to build it, especially given the direction of Euro lending rates.

Could (should) this ever happen in the uk?

It caught my attention because I remember a tragic story a few years back involving a father and child alighting from a HST, and the child realising they had left a toy onboard, which resulted in the father attempting to reboard the train while departing and his subsequent death. I forget where...

Could (should) this ever happen in the uk?

Kinda torn on this one. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2012/06/07/mbta-workers-rescue-girls-beloved-stuffed-bunny/ BOSTON (CBS) – MBTA workers sprung into action on Wednesday to rescue a little girl’s close friend, who had fallen onto the tracks. Casey and Michelle Carey-Brown’s 3-year-old...

    Privatisation VS BR

I don't really think it is possible to make a comparison. The TOC's and regulations are now so much more severe that there would be no way BR could have survived under them. That said, I agree that there is too much government control to really call it "privatised". "Contracted out" seems a...
