Grimsby train worker sacked, TPE South staff plan strike.

Well personal views aside, as I may know the said individual Such disrespect for the law such be taken seriously! Its sad that we now feel we should protect people committing crime. The courts are supposed to issue punishments to wrong doers not love and care :/

West Coast Railways Suspended (now reinstated)

I know why, but I can't explain it as I'm not a driver/fireman and have no knowledge of the locomotive :/

RMT vote 4 to 1 to strike over NR pay

The old story of a boy who cried wolf springs to mind. There have been a number of high profile strike threats recently which cause distress and concern to the economy and the public. With strikes often being called off. As someone that gets affected by the action its worrying and problematic...

Grimsby train worker sacked, TPE South staff plan strike.

I've had managers like that and they try anything to get things the way they want it. They get pulled up and *dealt with* but often not enough. If the issue that managers are doing that it should be dealt with. However life is a popularity contest and not a competency one :/

Northern Hosts ? Overload or just right ?

I like self service tills, they let me get on with my shopping without hassle. TVMs are just not fit for purpose and I believe extensive research was conducted to this hypothesis :P

Well I think the phrase used is IT rolls down hill! always dump it on someone else. I guess in his mind he was worried about delays, booking off and that its just a regular occurrence, which it IS. I personally feel management should share the blame, and again here, for lack of oversight, but...

But this is where the uncertainty comes in, what is the safe dispatch criteria. Unless he could have proved he knew the kid posed no danger than it could still be argued there was a risk. The police should have been called and it just waited. Unfortunately you would get delays but no risk. The...

RMT vote 4 to 1 to strike over NR pay

Wouldn't say so. They will be looking to cut but that is the question. If they can reduce staff naturally its better than using redundancy which I think was the major sticking point ;) (its not about wages).

    TOCs and cancelling trains

Well things will vary on a TOC basis, each TOC has different operations and different staff contracts. You can't *just cancel* a train, you have to cancel its full trip or make it up to somewhere, so its not simple. We luckily see very few cancellations here because its a small, isolated and...

Liverpool Lime Street 25/5 poor crowd control

Ohh I picked someone up last night from carriage siding 9, they had to walk down the whole platform with the other herds of people. "what a way to run a railway" I think was once said in a film ;)

I would differ on this. A train must be started to be stopped. At James St he made a clear acknowledgment of the risk. In this incident the risk is inferred because he aborted his first attempt to dispatch. By not checking the lad was clear it could be argued he knew he was there.

Northern Hosts ? Overload or just right ?

Well the idea is there in principle. Now if I mention "fishing rods" that's another kettle of .... The TVMs are mainly useless! But that's for a different thread. There is more to using a station than buying a ticket and railways are a business and not a very profitable one

Northern Hosts ? Overload or just right ?

Some wisdom "Give a guy a fish, feed him for a day Teach a guy to fish, feed him got life" I think the TOCs want to move us to more self service travel, helping those that need help. I don't have a problem with this. You can still buy your ticket in advance, online or at a small station.

Liverpool Lime Street 25/5 poor crowd control

YEah I bet It was advertised weeks in advance. They just don't care and don't know what there doing! The problem is they only have to *run* the station and don't have to do a good job! :/

Liverpool Lime Street 25/5 poor crowd control

"especially if the event is unticketed", was it.... I recall there being some tickets sold BY MERSEYTRAVEL! The mersnyferries was advance ticket only on Monday so they had ample warming, and it was a big event, they knew it was a big event and put in place the default plan they used for the...

Grimsby train worker sacked, TPE South staff plan strike.

I doubt 99.99% of things that pop up have been *trained* for, however the skill is making correct decisions quickly. As the information clearly indicates he knew there was a risk of a problem I would argue the dispatch should have been aborted and NOT restarted until it had been made safe. Not...

Liverpool Lime Street 25/5 poor crowd control

I'm not surprised, it is blowing there own trumpet a bit. No mention of ANY problems, so I can only assume performance was 100% and there were no queues AT ALL. Problems did occur and were dealt with on demand but they weren't dealt with IN ADVANCE. I think Merseyrail's* problems are down to...

    Announcement Hostility

My impression from the OP wasn't the message but it's tone. I feels it's accusing you of being wrong rather than informing you these are the rules. The *softly softly* approach should be used unless you have explicit reasons not to. When I get on a train I don't want some gruff aggresive...

RMT vote 4 to 1 to strike over NR pay

Is the issue not also about the lavish rises to executives. It seems to be a recurrent problem, primarily in the public* sector that executives get a nice pay rise. Should Cameron legislate that senior execs can only get a pay rise negotiated by the workers ;) As for them to take hefty bonuses...
