Cambridge South new station construction progress.

We recently issued a second time lapse video. Which made me check whether I'd ever posted the first timelapse video - not sure I did. Here's both of them. Enjoy! Recent one showing crane lifts: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eqsN2ubhvOD-zFUmIFzcVJtX_Y7VHHgI/view?usp=sharing Earlier one...

There is currenly at least, no network rail standard for PV panels. Each project assesses panels based on ite issues. Fire risk, maintenance, cost, accesibility, ownership, battery storage and/or back-feed to grid options, requirements for space, meters, BREAM/sustainability, planning...

No probs. :) Panel type is not something I can comment on publically at this stage though, sorry!

There will indeed be a lot of solar panels going up! Here's a film that shows you the designs based on our models: Cambridge South station flythrough visualisation film This is from the NR general info page re the station...

We have tried to keep our impact down - thanks. Yep, the zigzag path will be unaffected. Note that the zigzag path will be a good connection back down to the parkland under the bridge - that will all be opened up again when we remove the site offices at the end. It will be one of the routes...

You've clearly been doing your research well! Spot on. Yes, the compound will not get any bigger than it already is in Hobsons park. Those trees are completely unaffected by our works. Helicopters are indeed quite frequent. They often stay on the ground whilst waiting for crews but sometimes do...

Another possession this weekend. We have another crane on site, this time on the East side. Interesting point - note the red light on top. This is because we're close to the airport and also the helicopter landing pad at Addenbrookes. We've also deleted a section of the Down Main in...

Awesome pics. Thanks neill. Despite working in the site office all of a few hundrend metres away from the building, most of the time all I see is the walls of my office, so it's actually great to see what's going on outside while I sit inside and talk about it!!

Roof - Yep, glulam timber. Sheet piles - this is for an excavation down to a gas main. We're not diverting this one, but instead are applying strengthening to the pipe by applying a metal casing to the outside of the pipe. I'll have some photos in a few weeks time. Thank you. :)

Wow! It was quite impressive and we were worried initially that we wouldn;t get much done at all but thinkfully the wind allowed us some time. Here's some impressive pics of the station and its progress over the last week. This is the West side building. 1712595333 Other works involved the...

We did have several periods where the crane was unable to work due to the wind, but we had monitoring ongoing and were starting and stopping as wind speeds allowed. We still got a fair amount done as per your last photo! It was indeed avery busy weekend. I'll ost more about what else happened...

Heading Northbound coming from Royston, CA119, near Hauxton AHB, becomes 4 aspect. From there going north the signals are basically re-done entirely to fit the new layout. Currently, there is CA123 - 141 - 143 - 145. CA145 is just South of Long road bridge. In future there will be one...

    New Cambridge South Station Timetable

I'm an engineer - Anything is possible! Just give me enough money, time, and legal powers! In physical terms - the west building would need demolishing, platform 4 would become an island and a new western entrance building required. Guided busway bridge would need to be demolished and...

    Setting Trailing Points

This, 100%. I'm project engineering by background (track specilisation), and reasonably senior now. However, I fully agree that I started learning the day I started asking questions, learned a lot more on formal training, am still learning loads over 20 years into my railway career, and will...

In the Up direction (from Cambridge heading South) the speed will be 70mph (currently 90) from just South of Cambridge station. Just North of the new station the Up Main steps up to 80mph. The Up loop is 60mph. Further South the linespeed steps up to 90mph near where Dukes LC was. Shepreth...

Good pics neill - Thank you. Yes, the crane will be busy tomorrow until about 3:00ish at which point it will be packed away. A few more of the elements of the station building structure going in.

How long can i be held on a train?

Fair point. Perfectly reasonable question and discussion IMHO

Right, time to catch up on some of those questions that I missed while I went AWOL! You'll be pleased to know you get a break after that though. Ignoring small overnight stuff, the next full weekend closure after those dates will be 14/15 September. 1709920921 Foxton - No idea what's...

    Signal Diagrams

Agreed. You can get a lot from opentraintimes or traksy but that's probably the best source you're going to get, officially at leaast. If you have specific queries re certain areas then someone will probably assist, and you can find various cab ride videos on youtube through some areas which may...
