    Salisbury to exeter redoubling

Simples (as the annnoying advert says), Exeter to Bourno, run over the Romsey-Eastleigh single line, no need to reverse anywhere and also could call at Southampton airport on the way...

    Evergreen 3

Overrunning engineering works on the evergreen project???? Best one (so far) must have been the south ruislip bridge replacement, when the old bridge "declined" to come out......:D Think that was about a four hour overun into the monday morning peak....

    White-painted sections of track

The paint on the end of the juice rails, check rails etc is also for the crews of the unimat (and similar machines) in the background in E croydon sidings (Unimats being s&c tampers primarily). Just highlights them for the operators as they tamp through (if viewed from above, everything else...

    On track machine driver operator

(Not often agree with something ladydsm posts)... But she is spot on, even if you don't get trampled by the jarvis operators beating a path to the remaining OTM operators door, those that haven't gone wheels up are over staffed as NR has cut back on the work load. They are either cutting...

    Southampton Tunnel Siding?

Oracle, Yes, you are talking about the right one, it is (or was) known as the electric siding (despite being non juice). Think the power station was somewhere near where Toys R us is.

    setting the track camber

k_a, Thanks for that, thought it was one of them - which reminds me, it was Animal Farm that said "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others". Nice to know that quote lives on on the railways (when it comes to rdw allocation by the roster clerks....:twisted:)...

    setting the track camber

OT, Please tell that to your oppo's sarf of the river ! It seems to be group think down here, 07's bad, 08's good (was it Brave new world, Animal farm or 1984 that had group think ??? ). No 09's down here (and the arrival of our new matisa(s) seem to be vanishing mirage-like into the...

    setting the track camber

OT, Haven't done a renewals job in about six months ! Our local renewals depot prefers to do it on the dongle (and hence a compact 08 with alc), which rules out me and my beloved 07's . Whilst at the start of this "famine" I fretted about missing the buzz of being like a demented...

    setting the track camber

OT, V value file on a dongle (probably with the rest of the scheme on there as well) , luxury as they say :). (what did Harold McMillan say to the masses years ago, "You've never had so good " ???) Much more fun with the transition(s) (if theres a rad change part way along the curve)...

sharp curves + effect on wheels

Always wondered what Sidewear actually was!! (just keep seeing the SW markings when out mashing the sleepers and never bothered to ask, gathered from its name it was wear on the side of rails, but did not know its implications!!) Cheers V

    SWT service collapse, 23/12/09

Bloomin' Flash Harrys whizzing up and down the fasts all day.:D We normally get stuck on the slows (invariabley behind an all shacks chav mover) unless its late at night or they just want rid off us :) V

    SWT service collapse, 23/12/09

Ta for that, so looks like Mega Bucks charged to NR, Spot hire for a a couple of tramms to go de-icing would be (relatively) small change (even at short notice rates) :D Trains run, passengers get there, NR saves a large fortune on delay penalties etc. Simples! Everyones happy (apart...

    SWT service collapse, 23/12/09

Same manager (or the one that decreed the MPV's had to be collectively serviced) also presumabley thought the ice and snow would obligingly stay away until NR's MPV were ready to roll again. NR Wessex/Kent/Sussex could have always turned to their local OTM provider, whose TRAMMS (sort of old...

60 vs 66 on robeston to westerleigh petroleum

Ah yes, but was a it red 66, or FL 66/6???? If it was a 6, then AIUI, (hopefully a 66 jock will correct me if wrong), its regeared for lower speed and better tractive effort, which would bring it nearer to a 60 in terms of grunt?? V

    Amey colas highoutput vacancies

For you to put that OT, must be bad (having read your views on NR elsewhere!! :D). Won't bother seeing if they want any tamper operators then!!

    UKs sharpest gradient change?

OT, Nice bit of running out into the existing there NOT!! No attempt to blend it in to the existing by the look of it, guess the next tamper in on follow up over the next few nights (if there was one of course!) was not asked to put the lining right either  Mind, looks like they...

    Dropped Joints

OT, Do we?? :p Fortunately we are all not like that! Ok, there are some both long and short in service, who have been brainwashed by the office that the paperwork must be total truth and accurate in every respect  Most of us hate the reams of paperwork that go with every shift...

    Dropped Joints

As ever, OT , you hit the nail on the head! Most crossings (foot or road crossings) don't come out for the tamper (no one to take them out) ,so as OT says, we have to ramp(run) in and out to the fixed point caused by the crossing. Even if the crossing does come out (most large road...

    On Track Machine

Greetings all! Blockjoint, I think the frenzy about getting rid of the tampers etc is driven by the fear of an over run and all the flak that will follow that (and the cost of the delay minutes)!! We are usually told (as soon as we arrive - but then at least everyone knows the score)...
