Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

I have made my first TFW trips this week from Manchester to Cardiff, First Class. Unfortunately my first trip was the 1430 from Man on Tuesday which turned up a 150 two car, very very disappointed. More luck today on the 0849 from CDF, I had a very nice brekkie although only one serving member...

    China Clay trains

There used to be a lot of china clay trains in Cornwall back in the day. In recent years this has turned into very few. Was the prime reason less demand for the clay in the Potteries or did the supplies of the clay around the greater St Austell area run out?

Hello aar0, I live in Leicester but I am thinking of going to Nuneaton to Manchester Piccadilly to then have a ride on the Loco hauled TFW to Cardiff. I would then stop at Sleeperz, Cardiff and return the next day. Can you book a First Class seat or is it first come first served, also do they...

    Freightliner Guards module at York.

Thanks for the replies so far, I assume it has been loitering at the NRM for around 50 years.

    Freightliner Guards module at York.

Many of you will have seen the Freightliner Intermodal guards unit outside the NRM at York. Were these ever used on trains in the 1960's? I was a freight guard in 1970 and my container train trips were in the rear cab of the loco. I wouldn't fancy being in one of those units at the rear of a...

Horrendous Hull Trains East Coast ride

If the IET trains are rough riding, does this mean that when EMR go electric, my ride to St Pancras will be more lively.

St Pancras safety concerns at top of EMR P1-4 escalator (11/02)

Ever since the Eurostar takeover MML and EMR has been a bit part player at St Pancras instead of the main TOC. All this fuss over digital signalling on the ECML, if I am a passenger sitting in First I can just look at Opentraintimes and see what's ahead, can't the driver do the same? :D.

    GNER at Inverness?

Thanks for that 800001, my brain wasn't working too well and I forgot the train would be running under the wires for a long part of it's journey. I was still in HST dreamworld. GNER at Inverness?

Can The Highland Chieftain stock manage not re-fueling overnight at Inverness, I think it starts at Leeds, then Kings Cross to Inverness then Inverness to Kings Cross then? I guess Leeds. I was on this train on the 18th January, there was plenty of snow at Kingussie. There is a photo in the...
