    TRIVIA:- Food related bus destinations.

A few I can think of in Halifax there is Rye Lane and Hopwood Lane. In Leeds Bramley (apples), I'm not sure if you can still get a bus to Boddington Hall for the thirsty students. If they prefer tea so as not to damage their Liversedge they could boil their water in Kettlethorpe. In Bradford...

(TRIVIA) Useful lines never built because of geography

I seem to remember reading somewhere there was an idea to continue the Worth Valley line from Oxenhope under the hill to Halifax.

Where have you been in Europe by rail?

Did a couple of Interrails in the early 80s. More unusual journeys I recall were going to Istanbul via Belgrade.Waiting for the train there an empty coach came slowly rolling in, it must have been fly shunted from somewhere. It was full by the time it stopped, all doors and windows were used as...

    Trip to The Orkneys

Another option is Northlink from Aberdeen. Some of the Lerwick sailings call in at Kirkwall. I've been a fair few times. I have always been on Pentland Ferries but I take the car. Love the place, if you get the chance visit some of the outer islands. Orkney Ferries do some cheap Sunday trips...

Angel Road to Edmonton Green, Closed line

Passengers abandon train at Lewisham with 3rd rails still live.

As you ought to realise the way things work nowadays staff are not allowed to use their initiative ,I know you are frustated but put yourself in their position,if something goes wrong who gets the blame. Front line staff are on the side of the passenger and are just as p'd off with manage ment...

    Interesting Worldwide Railways

Have you tried the Sabah Railway in North Borneo, think it still runs. I did it in the 80s on a very interesting solo trip across the top of Borneo via boats and logging trucks, and a flight on a Malaysian Airways Twin Otter which cost me just over £1.

Ilkley - Addingham: The line out of Ilkley

I remember now where there is a good piece on this line: www.davidheyscollection.com ,I've spent many an hour on this excellent website. There is a pic of Ilkley viaduct being demolished in the Wharfedale Observer.

Ilkley - Addingham: The line out of Ilkley

The lostrailwayswestyorkshire website has a section on this. A very good website. Did you know there was a branch from the Guiseley line to High Royds, I believe the bridge parapet still survives near the ambulance station.

TRIVIA - Things you saw travelling on BR that you don't see today

I have one of these somewhere in the attic that a friend ''liberated'' one drunken night out in the late 70s

    Class 25

059 at the KWVR, often on the Keighley end. Got a feeling it's out this weekend. Thought I heard it earlier.

Competition heats up between Transdev and Connexions

My observations re the downfall of the 653 were due to First using old buses. As there were a lot of breakdowns which meant people didn't rely on the last bus so this got axed due to low patronage and this carried on until the last bus was too early to be of any use to commuters. Bradford to...

Aireline 60 bus on board announcements (Previously 760)

Imagine how the locals feel on the Bronte Bus who've been doing this journey all their lives. Good for tourists though.

Why don’t more buses have on board stop displays (Yorkshire)

Cost basically. It would seem as though Metro are keen to penalise bus companies they won't help the

Stranded person and dead milage running

If running back dead you'e not insured for passengers,so if anything goes wrong you're to blame. if vulnerable person involved weigh up the odds. In my experience too many tryers on, but obviously if vulnerable keep you're mouth shut and I'll drop you off.If last bus blobbed get a taxi ask for...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

I did notice at a local depot in Yorkshire the 08 geminis had similar gearbox problems earlier this year. There were problems with coolant leaking from the roofs of streetlites and supposedly a streetdeck needed a new gearbox. Some of these gearboxes are very jerky.

    4 Car Suburbia

These pics reminded me of the de-icers/departmentals which were always hard to see, they always seemed to hide in the depths of their depots. Sometimes you could see one through a broken window in the Durnsford Rd shed or parked outside across the road in Wimbledon Park sidings. Thinking back to...

    4 Car Suburbia

One of my first visits to a termini was The Cross. I recall maybe not this time but being invited into the cab of a Deltic, I'll never forget that,I'm sure it was Pinza that was my favourite for some reason. The driver and his mate were well proud of their charge and who can blame them. Kings...
