Weirdest Oddities Still on the UK Network?

Had forgotten about that, good point. Add to that also the White City 'wrong side' tracks, The Central Line as a whole really is an oddity itself!

Weirdest Oddities Still on the UK Network?

The layout of Greenford Station I always found odd. The fact that you have the GWR service terminating in-between two through London Underground lines. Is there anything else like that on either network?

    GWR Class 800

Just been in FC for the first time on an 800, was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it actually was! Visually it didn't initially look like much, but once I sat down I realised there was actual padding and lots of space! The cushion is very nice as well. Tried both a powered and unpowered...

    GWR Class 800

They 'look' softer that's for sure, more like the Class 158 seats. Only sitting on them will tell... To be fair I personally had no issues with most of the seat design, it was only really the base I found too firm on the rear. Posture was good and legroom exceptional, although I still wonder why...

    GWR Class 800

Seats will be the same, yes. Whether they will be as hard as current remains to be seen with the rumoured new seat covers. Personally I think the seats would be just fine with a bit more padding to make them more like the 395s. Overall they do have the capability to be a true successor to the...

Seating and comfort on the IEPs vs HSTs

Are GWR not now changing the moquette in Standard on 80x classes? Thought I read they were... That might pad them a little better, the only issue I had when travelling on one was the hardness of the base. The seats themselves otherwise were comfy enough and would be up to HST standards in my...

Class 442s - Now at the end of the road and to be withdrawn permanently

Well FC is getting 2+2 seating (why??!) , so they could very well be getting ironing boards in Standard! Or possibly 80x-style seats...

    Class 395 Javelin - Opinions

Its been 3 years almost to the day I last tried one, but I found them very pleasant. Would be good to compare to the 800, I think the seats in the 800 are firmer on the base as I can't remember the seat bases feeling firm at all on the 395s? Wonder why they didn't just use the same seats in both...

    Cumbrian Coast Loco Hauled Stock

Had booked to go on one on Fri 19th before even reading about the reliability or replacements. Going to be getting the 1004 from Preston... If it turns up! Not sure what ill do if a 153/156 is waiting in the platform.

    XC HST diagrams Sat 20/01/18

Thanks, that explains it. So its either a really early or afternoon start for me then!

    XC HST diagrams Sat 20/01/18

Hi. Trying to book an HST from Leeds on the 20th Jan towards Derby, however due to XC turning services at Exeter St Davids I'm wondering if the diagrams will be different... Does anyone have an idea of what normally happens when the services terminate at Exeter? Normally the 0911 from Leeds to...

Blog Article: Direct London-Aberystwyth services with new Aberystwyth-Carmarthen Line

A Bristol to Aberystwyth through service may prove useful perhaps, but a through train from London would be alot quicker via Wolverhampton. It would probably still be quicker with the current change at Shrewsbury (almost 5hr) if the Carmarthen route even existed today.

Poll: What are your thoughts on travelling on Pendolinos?

Used to despise 390s. This was back when I used them every fortnight and they only had 4 standard class coaches, so they were always busy. I eventually switched to Chiltern, preferring even the 165 that would occasionally turn up at Moor Street substituting a 168 back to London (does that happen...

    GWR Class 800

Had a ride on the 1435 from Bristol. Departed late due to a technical issue and was delayed further at Didcot due to a passenger incident. The train itself was impressive as expected, very spacious and mostly a quiet ride save for the whine from I presume the electric motors once off the...

Midland Mainline Class 170 Turbostars Replaced What?

Ah yes, the good old MML 170s... They were mainly used on new 'stopping' services and to destinations not previously served (Buxton, York...). This enabled the HSTs to mostly run fast between London and Leicester. Problem was with their shorter formations and cramped interiors compared to the...

    GWR direct service to Birmingham

Interesting, so basically the Worcester terminators would just continue to Kidderminster. Pretty sure BR used to run that exact service up until around 1993? Would be nice to see a 80x at Kidderminster though, even if it does take the long way round to London.

    GWR Class 800

Looks to me like a Standard Class Desiro seat rather than a Javelin one? Not that its a bad thing... They've bedded in well on the 350/444s over the years.

Poll: What are your thoughts on travelling on Pendolinos?

Used to hate them when I travelled fortnightly up the WCML, found them claustrophobic and cramped. Also thought the ride was rough and the tilting made me feel sick... Recently caught one from Edinburgh to Wolverhampton though (after spending weekend on HSTs) and it was fine! Not sure if they...

    GWR Class 800

Good to see some positive things said about the IET from those who have actually been on them! I for one have been excited for a while about trying these out (having been a HST fan since the 80s when I first rode one), hopefully that opportunity will come in October. They certainly look very...
