Would train companies take responsibility for this? Or the council?

Well there should really be an arrangement for station car parks at least whereby people are not penalised for overstaying if their train was delayed, since a station car park is designed to integrate the two forms of transport.

Would train companies take responsibility for this? Or the council?

If one is driving to a train station, I feel as though one should be able to park in a limited waiting space if their train would be scheduled to get them back in time (e.g. if a parking space allows free parking for 2 hours from 9-5, it should be ok to park there in the evening and travel back...

    Can I Cut the Corner?

In my opinion if a ticket is valid for entry/exit at a station then one should be allowed through with no questions asked. Similarly if a manual check is performed, this should be done to the same standard as an automatic gate. For example, the barriers at Victoria accept a railcard discounted...

    Can I Cut the Corner?

It is very frustrating that some staff lack basic knowledge of what tickets are valid, and furthermore that they "know" that certain tickets are not! I had a similar ticket recently and tried to break my journey at Falmer. The member of staff at the barrier said that it is definitely not valid...

Contactless but can't remember which card...

Yes I suppose using Google Pay is a reasonably good solution

Contactless but can't remember which card...

This seems like a good example of why using contactless is better. Unfortunately you cannot apply a railcard discount though. Also it drives me mad that until they introduce the back office system for Oyster, it is cheaper in some situations to use 2 separate Oyster cards in a day...but if you...

Why can't driving licences be used instead of Photocards for Season Ticket ID?

It seems as though the TVMs should explain clearly what is meant by the photocard ID and show a photo of an example. Perhaps they should make you scan it and/or check that what has been entered is actually a valid season ticket photocard ID number as well.

Contactless but can't remember which card...

The fact that validators are tucked away at some stations means that some passengers may touch out on one at a barriered station (if they do not know that it is barriered) and then wonder what to do when they get to the barriers. This happened to me once, however I was told correctly by staff...

Contactless but can't remember which card...

I can completely relate to this as I sometimes struggle to remember whether I have done something or not. Sometimes I travel with Oyster or contactless in London and if I have entered an unbarriered station with validators, I cannot always remember if I have touched in or not. It is very...

Why can't driving licences be used instead of Photocards for Season Ticket ID?

If that is the case then how is it that retailers are able to accept them as proof of age for the sale of alcohol, when the penalties are so high for selling it to children? Incidentally, I did once see someone purchase a paper weekly season ticket from a TVM at a TFL Rail station, and for the...

Issue with Z1-6 travelcard at King's Cross

Even that is not necessary as a passenger could have used a boundary zone ticket

How much does it cost to power a train?

At the very least, it would be very useful to know the relative costs of different sizes of train, e.g. how many times as much does it cost to run a 12 coach train as it does to run an 8 coach train?

How much does it cost to power a train?

Is there any way that I can get an estimate of running a British Rail Class 377 train per mile for different numbers of carriages? I am not looking for a cost per passenger per mile, however if there is any information on how the number of passengers on a train affects the cost of running it...

    Capacity of train carriages

In the article https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/jul/27/southern-rail-tops-list-most-overcrowded-trains it states "In the autumn, 1,366 passengers were on a Southern train with space for 640, as it approached London Bridge from East Grinstead at 8.20am". Is anyone able to confirm how...

    Capacity of train carriages

Thanks, I can't seem to find a seating plan there for class 377 trains - has one been made? With regards to standing space, I am looking for the best estimate - ideally I would like to know the official capacity as well as the maximum in practice.

Thanks for the advice. If anyone is able to look this up for me, that would be very helpful.

St Pancras to Stratford validity: can you remain on board and travel via the Kent coast?

If this was allowed, could one argue that they are allowed to make unlimited journeys from Stratford International to the Kent Coast and back? Every time that they are at Stratford International, one be breaking their journey before "continuing" their journey to Stratford International on the...

    Capacity of train carriages

Is there any way of finding out what the capacities of different train carriages are? I would like to find out the capacity of a British Rail Class 377 - both the total capacity and the number of seats. I realise that this varies since there are sometimes 5 seats going across and sometimes 4.

    Historic train timetables

Is there any easy way of viewing old train timetables? It would be particularly useful if I could get hold of GTR's timetable from before the changes in May. This is for a master's project that I am doing.
