Who has been to Miniworld (Rotterdam)

We like going to Rotterdam on the ferry, the coach transfer is much shorter than the one to Amsterdam. Also we sometimes go to see friends in Utrecht and the transfer drop off is right next to the central station (as well as near Miniworld ! ). You can still but a reasonable amount of "duty...

Scotrail HSTs - 4-5 years in

Which thread should I ask this question on ?

Scotrail HSTs - 4-5 years in

So, including Scotrail & GWR, are there about 25 sets left in use ?

Scotrail HSTs - 4-5 years in

Thanks. So all the GWR sets have gone then ? I obviously think it is utterly ludicrous to call HSTs "dangerous" for the drivers. I suspect the drivers are at well over 10X as much risk being killed driving to work than they are driving an HST.....

Scotrail HSTs - 4-5 years in

Sorry to use this thread for a slightly different question, but as at today how many HSTs are still in service in the UK ? I must confess I have not read all 22 pages of this thread, can anyone remind us when the last HST in UK use is due to be with drawn ? Thanks.

Who has been to Miniworld (Rotterdam)

Has anyone been to Miniworld in Rotterdam ? We must have been four or five times and I think its brill (there's a word you haven't heard since school....) ! It's one of the biggest model railways / model worlds I have seen. Most of it so scenes round Rotterdam (which every now and then goes to...

    Cobbs historical rail atlas

My pages, the most used ones (and my Cobbs does get used, a lot), started pulling out. My bookbinder reinforced the gutters of all the pages that are stitched with that matt page repair tape, then restitched them all with extra strong thread. * you can't see it and you can still write on it, in...

    Cobbs historical rail atlas

I think the 3rd edition "had stronger bindings", which I can confirm from my own experience would be worth having... I had the bindings on my own 1st edition copy strengthened, for the larger (and more used) volume 1 at any rate. Basically they were re-sewn with strong thread by the bookbinder...

    Cobbs historical rail atlas

This is a rarity, a Cobbs third edition for sale (on E Bay, bids from £225). I'd buy it had I not already got one ! The advert has large pics of the historical lines around Liverpool and SE of Sheffield.

Tender pickups on Grafar / Graham Farish "steam" locos

I occasionally add to my collection of N gauge locos and have discovered that older locomotives tend to derail less on my 1970s (originally built) layout, thus I really need to be buying Grafar or older Graham Farish stuff. The problem is I want good current pick up and for that one needs tender...

    Wortley Curve West Yorkshire

What about an open access operator, e.g. GC Trains ? It'd be much faster than via Halifax but at the same time LNER could not accuse it of abstracting fare income (from Leeds). 1710524750 Incidentally is 1975 a significant date in Wortley Curve's history ? I do not understand why (could have...

Are the Lackenby sidings still open ?

Are the Lackenby sidings still open ? And if so what are they used for if the steel works shut down in 2015 ?

Am I the only passenger who prefers / preferred Pacers to Sprinters ?

But some of us preferred them to C150s ! At least you got a good view out of them ! !

BR green liveried locos in the HST era

I have added a picture of the original RWM article with all 136 numbers. I wonder whether Mr S J Rinham of Essex is still with us ? ! ? It was 59 years ago so I suspect possibly not.....

BR green liveried locos in the HST era

    So should it be 40 106 and 40 136 ?

BR green liveried locos in the HST era

Thanks for that, I have edited the opener : Edit : Note from Magdalia (down thread), "there is a transcription error in the 47s, the list from Railway Magazine should read 47195/256/356/358/365/366/367/369". To be fair the actual list in RWM was 47 195/256/356/8/65/6/7/9. A curious method of...
