    Wifi on board

I've purchased it a couple of times of VTWC and have found it unreliable and just a pain to use - constantly being booted off the network and having to re-enter credentials. There seem to be long stretches of the WC route with poor satellite signal (I'm assuming that's what they're using), so...

    VTWC strike travel disruption info/advice

NB. Seat reservations appear not to be available on the now reinstated 'normal' services, even if you had reservations previously, re-booked on the 'revised' services, then are bumped back onto normal service. Still disruptive, while not 'striking'.

    Caledonian Sleeper discussion

At least the trespass/police negotiation incident gave them time to load more grapes for the cheeseboards. They initially only had enough for 4, but are now fully stocked due to the delay. Every cloud!!

New VTWC (Virgin Trains West Coast) first class weekend upgrade prices from June 2016

Used Weekend First upgrade Glasgow-Euston for the first time since the price hike today, and what was once a decent value upgrade is now really tough to justify. The snack box is the same rubbish, and the cheese wrap thing was so-so. Had one coffee so far in 90mins and the wifi is as patchy...

    May Virgin Trains timetable change

But there were multiple trains Euston to Glasgow that stopped at those intermediaries - there was only one such 'fast' limited-stop service up to Glasgow. It was a very attractive option at a touch over 4 hours, and has been in place for years. Seems like a strange change to make given there...

London to Glasgow - Best seat and general advice

Also agree, East Coast is a more scenic route, views out over the east coast cliffs are stunning on a clear day, and the run into Edinburgh is quite nice. But yeah, does require a change at Edinburgh. If east coast, sit on the right as you are going North. If you go West Coast, sit on the...

London to Glasgow - Best seat and general advice

I do this route often, but rarely first class except on the weekends. My top tip (may be frowned upon) is to watch realtimetrains.co.uk website for details of which platform the train is at, as it shows this info before it is displayed/announced to the other passengers on the concourse...

Storm Frank: impact on West Coast and Highland Mainlines

What are the chances of the 04:35 or 05:30 trains running from Glasgow-Euston direct on the 22nd? Low-to-zero?

Are Abellio GreaterAnglia on strike this morning (09/08)?

Just looking at the disruptions that are happening on the Liverpool St-Hertford East line this morning. Trains are being re-routed via Hackney Downs, with many cancellations. Looks like more than just one driver is off sick going by the frequency of cancellations. Not expected to...

VTEC halted at Berwick Upon Tweed, person hit (27/06)

Delays mounting on this line through the day, following an earlier line inspection down south. https://twitter.com/virgin_trainsec/status/614814110295977984 @Virgin_TrainsEC: #VTECDelay There may be delays due to a person hit by a train between Dunbar and Berwick. Please check...

TOCs selling return tickets, with no intention of honouring them.

Just wondering what (if any) recourse I can take around a ticket sales tactic that First Capital Connect use at the weekends on the Great Northern route. On the 7th of September, they sold me an off-peak day return from HGY thru to MAI. I travelled on an early train, 07:04. All good. The...

Get over yourself. It doesn't come close to saying that.

How to instruct customer service when buying a ticket?

I get what you mean, but how can I obtain a reservation, if those selling the reservations are unable to find the reservation I want? Would I be able to give him the code of a service and say it's service XXXYYYY, and he'd be able to find it in the system? Or is it just luck?

How to instruct customer service when buying a ticket?

Thanks for that. I'd like a seat reservation - would that have been what would have been difficult?

How to instruct customer service when buying a ticket?

I was wondering if someone familiar is able to advise me on pointers I could give when buying my rail ticket? I often travel from Euston to Glasgow Central, 4.30pm on a Friday , and want an off-peak open return. I see them on the East Coast website, £130.60 right now. Twice recently I've...

    Caledonian Sleeper, your views!

Generally, am a big fan. Even though the trains are a little tired, it does feel like a welcome blast from the past. Being able to leave work in London in the evening, and wake in Aviemore soon after, is a delight. Sleeping wise, the cabins are too cramped for anyone of average and above...

Weather related disruption - Christmas 2013 and New Year 2014

Delayed 90mins between Preston and Carlisle due to overhead line problems. Virgin staff in good spirits keeping us informed. We would get stuck in a dead data spot in Penrith and be unable to get info... Slow running to Carlisle now.
