    My ALR 2015 - Bashing & Beers

Apologies - yes you're right, I mixed the names up, which I did several times that day too! We went to Tapped Leeds which is indeed the one on Boar Lane. Leeds Brewery Tap is the one closer to the station which we did not visit (well worth it though its a great place - owned by Leeds Brewery)...

    My ALR 2015 - Bashing & Beers

Having done Ruggex's to Cardiff in the past (47's and 50's) I was in no hurry to repeat the experience of being crammed into a vestibule with lots of burley men! Reading was far enough for me and got it in the book  The Yarmouth run was great, both loco's are powering on load 3 so...

    My ALR 2015 - Bashing & Beers

That's what I like doing these days... gone are the days of spotting, photting and videoing of my younger days. These days it's all about scoring loco's for haulage and finding decent beers around the country! Day 6 - The South West (ish) Today was a bit of an odd day. With it being a...

    My ALR 2015 - Bashing & Beers

    Yes indeed!

    My ALR 2015 - Bashing & Beers

Thanks! Glad to be of assistance in giving you all some ideas with my experiences. I don't quite know what kind of sleep you'd get in the Travelodge on a Saturday night though as it is just off the main strip! A 14 day ALR would definitely be too long! I'd probably do a similar length Interrail...

    My ALR 2015 - Bashing & Beers

Thankyou once again everyone! Now that I have discovered real ale I couldn't do railways without it  About the connections at Barrow and Carlisle... I did have a feeling it was something to do with the longer journey times on the hauled sets. Shame its put connections out of the window...

    My ALR 2015 - Bashing & Beers

Ouch, that's even worse than me flagging it completely, getting so close and then being turned back! Better luck next time I guess... Thanks for the comments guys. I do try to log my beers, sometimes I forget or have poor phone signal, but I do generally tick them off on the 'Untappd' app. We...

    My ALR 2015 - Bashing & Beers

Thanks guys, it would appear Margate is generally quite unpopular then! My mate was glad to get some of the lines done given the only rover for that area is the expensive 3 day SouthEastern one. Anywho... Day 2 - Cardiff & The Marches Day 2 dawned with leaden skies and heavy rain. My...

    My ALR 2015 - Bashing & Beers

Hello all, It's been a long time since I've posted anything on here, although having just completed an ALR I thought I'd share my week with you. I quite enjoyed reading other people's ALR reports so it's only fair I contribute a bit of my own adventure which may either inspire you or put you...

    Bread Rolls

It's a breadcake, don't listen to what yorkie says! It's a South Yorkshire/Sheffield thing. A bun is sweet!

    Middle lane driving: your views?

Sounds good, I hope they manage to implement it well. I don't mind constantly moving out to pass lorries etc, keeps me on my toes.

What is so bad about a Pacer?

They were acceptable in the 80s, but not today. The "toilet" is basically a broom cupboard! If you're any bigger than average size and wanting to use it, you're in for a bad time. Having had to endure pacers for many years I don't see many good points about them. The doors on them just seem so...

FGW looking at loco hauled for the Cardiff - Taunton route

Plenty of surplus LHCS around, infact DBS have just put some up for sale.

    Red Pen 2013

Glad it wasn't just me that needed a load of the stuff at Swanage then! I needed the line too. For me I scored: 08436 20142, 20189, 20227 33111 37521

    Red Pen 2013

An impromptu trip to Birmingham on Thursday scored me the following: 150107 (last LM 150) 153364 (my last LM 153 was sadly on Bedford-Bletchleys) 158823 170502/511 323201 - cleared the class at last! After 2 failed attemps last year I finally got 201! 350119/123/247/257 390010/104/138/156 I...

    Failed Steamer at Rhyl

I'm surprised that they didn't have a loco on the back of the train as a contingency measure. It's extra weight and costs more but surely it must be cheaper than paying the cost for all the delays incurred. Then again it'd lead to extra faffing around when running loco's round. I drove from...

Coasts & Peaks Rover, April 2013

I did a Coast & Peaks rover a couple of years back. Quite a good rover, although like you I found myself purchasing a week Travelmaster to get to Sheffield to start the rover off. Sounds like a reasonable trip, Donny PSB permitting.

Yorkshire Pub crawl meet - Easter Monday

That's the one! Not to worry, Yorkie can never remember which 37 I am anyway  Good trip report, I enjoyed the day out, particularly the music train through to Sheffield!

    Accommodation suggestions and reviews

Rugby Travelodge as mentioned above offers great views of the WCML providing you get a room facing that direction as it is literally just over the road. It's the first time I've ever checked in at a Travelodge and heard 2x37s open up behind me!
