they may take up space but so do bags on seats which is what is happening. As the 195/331 are replacing 158s on a number of routes which do have space for bags it seems almost a step back for passengers to now have to travel with a bag on a seat or piled up by the doors.
One thing that’s lacking from the 195s is the absence of any luggage racks. Caught a 2-car Friday afternoon Leeds to Nottingham service and people’s suitcases were stacking up against the doors. Seems strange luggage racks have been completely overlooked seeing as these units operate longer...
as a passenger I despise the 155, they’re often cold, slow, uncomfortable and the door arrangement isn’t suitable for the high volume routes the run on.
They are still a fairly common sight around Leeds.
It still baffles me that northern went for 3/car and 4/car units. If the 3/car are going to be doubled up surely going for 4 and 6 car units would have made more sense
Try telling those commuters on the Donny-Leeds line with daily class 331 cancellations due to “train faults”. I’m sure many would be happy with continuing pacers and class 32x’s if it meant a running service
