    Great Western Electrification Progress

The Ufton loop can and has been used by both passenger and freight, with freight being the most frequent user. With the possibility of passenger trains having to use the loop that's why its been wired up

Trivia: Platforms you never see certain trains depart from

Theale Platform 3, usually only used by freight trains but during the week long engineering works on the B&H line between Newbury and Theale it is being used as the terminating platform for the shuttle trains to Reading

Trivia: Stations which have been renamed?

Midgham, a station which is actually in the village of Woolhampton rather than Midgham. It opened as Woolhampton in 1847, but was changed to Midgham in 1873. It became Midgham Halt in 1964 and then Midgham again in 1969. All of that just to avoid confusion between the small village of...

FANTASY: You're in charge of your own Open Access operator.

Seeing as its a fantasy thread, perhaps all of the extra train stock could be stored using a system like the Japanese use for car parking as shown below.

Toe-Ton or Tott-Un? (Toton and Totton)

I'm gonna take a guess and say its probably the F word

My trip to see Harry patch 43172 locomotive

I've seen various spotters at Reading every now and then, so i would assume its alright with them. Might be an idea to let the staff know your spotting just to avoid any possible hassle

Anyone know what this new building's for? (CET plant at Reading)

I do believe this BBC article puts this thread to rest, with the building being a CET plant. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-42049943

    Reading station

I know this all too well, even off a 3 car turbo in the morning a horde of people will form around the closest escalator because a lot of them believe closest is quickest. When its actually quicker to go to the escalator at the other end of the platform, especially when said escalator is broken...

Anyone know what this new building's for? (CET plant at Reading)

If it is next to the depot lines but not actually connected to them in any way the only logical uses for that structure could either be some sort of office block/possibly a training centre. Or parts storage unless such place already exists within the maintenance facility. How close those ideas...

    Virgin East Coast Twitter

While that would stop the confusion that happens between the two accounts, in reality it probably wouldn't work well due to the sheer number of tweets they would have to handle. Even as separate accounts the large number of tweets can cause some to be missed, and combining the two would...

    Collecting window labels

Nope GWR always stick theirs to the windows, although I've sometimes seen HST's without any labels or labels from the previous journey. So presumably they only get changed at Paddington or other big termini providing they have the time.

VTEC train hit animals on line? (13/10)

Exactly, for example a week or two ago cows got onto the line between Reading and Basingstoke after escaping from the farmers' field or wherever they were at the time and luckily not hit. Who's to say the horse couldn't of made a similar escape and had an unfortunate outcome.

    Chair screws for maintenance??

M is the metric diameter of a bolt. So a M6 bolt has a diameter of 6mm so it will fit in a 6mm hole. At least that's what I've learnt on my Engineering and Automotive courses. I've never heard S or AS used before

I believe 113 is in the same boat as 112, both in GWR green but have no branding on them

Class 707 - SWT: Introduction into service

I'm almost certain that I saw 013 on test at Reading the other day

Missing but wished-for features on trains

For smaller local stations that could potentially be a viable option, but in the bigger stations that have an abundance of different shops I think they'd rather you spend your money in the shops. Which keeps the shop company happy keeping them at the station, which means renting money from the...

TRIVIA - Things you saw travelling on BR that you don't see today

I know the 450s have one, and I assume that the 444s and 350s would have one as well but could be wrong. Though I'm not sure how much use they actually get.

TRIVIA - current stations which were originally two separate stations

Reading General and Reading Southern, I think this would count under your rules
  19. H

    Great Western Livery

Yep, repainting it was an option they had but I don't think GWR wanted this unit to be OOS for longer than it already had been

    Great Western Livery
