Stations which receive a better service on strike days

St. Peters usually receives a couple of direct services from Kings Cross as a result of Sunderland closing at 19:00 on RMT strike days

Northern re-records 34 station name announcements with local pronunciation

It's little wonder there's been a need to re-record stations if they can't even manage to pronounce "to" correctly. "...Northern service tuh" - Absolutely hideous

Fort William and Mallaig driver duties

There must be some flexibility with Drivers covering Guard shifts - The Guard of the afternoon Fort William shift was wearing an ASLEF red and white lanyard yesterday.

    European Traincrew Diagrams

This might be a longshot, but does anybody have / able to point me in the direction of traincrew diagrams for any of the following countries: Benelux / France / Austria / Germany / Switzerland? Any timetable period would be welcome, current or historic - Purely for personal perusal.

    EN40462 Routing

Not directly related to the night train this thread is concerned with, but I notice in late March daytime RailJets from to / from Zurich do not call at Sargans. I don't have my atlas to hand, but would this suggest a diversion via St. Margrethen and therefore no reversal at Buchs?

    Engine tender coupling query

Something I've always been curious about, is how is the area accessed for the pin to be inserted / removed? I've seen a few solo tenders with the drawbar exposed (theres one outside the NRM at the moment). Once the drawbar is pushed into the locomotive, then surely it will be directly below the...

    Tyne and Wear Metro: ‘Shorts’

For a short period in the noughties there was also a pair of St. James - Wallsend afternoon peak services.

Trivia: A train that overtakes another train, then gets overtaken on the same journey

Not a planned move at all, but this afternoon the 10-minute late 1A65 (14:12 Sunderland - London) overtook the on-time 1V64 (13:08 Edinburgh - Plymouth) at Darlington. 1V64 then overtook 1A65 on the racetrack approaching Thirsk. Just as well really as I'm intending to make that connection at York!

    Using Interrail for UK Travel.

I often used a the peak time Flying Scotsman service in First Class from Newcastle to London, when off on an Interrail adventure. Comparing the Interrail ticket price to that of a walk up, I was technically in profit without leaving the country! It's a massive benefit of the pass and long may...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Whenever I've arrived from Fort William, a member of staff has let me off the station, up the ramp onto Waverley Bridge - Sometimes after watching the shunt, other times at their request as soon as I alighted from the sleeper. Edit: This was when the train operated the "day service" - Hopefully...

Trivia: Stations with the same name in other countries

Trois Ponts, in Belgium between Liege and Gouvy, is a direct translation of Three Bridges

    4001’s new livery

Going by a selfie taken by Mr Hughes, and uploaded to the Metro Facebook page, it would seem 4001 has been in service this morning.

    SNCB to Maubeuge / Aulnoye

My thinking is that there would be more opportunities to work other SNCB services (moreso the crew, as you mention the standard interval timetable) once back in their own country, whereas there would be absolutely nothing for them to do whilst they sit in France.

    SNCB to Maubeuge / Aulnoye

Hi all. A year or two ago, SNCB started running across the border into France to give connections from Mons, Namur and Charleroi to Paris, changing at the above stations, using non-high speed services. The timetables clearly provide connections into the same SNCF trains, however I'm intrigued...

    Duty Cards

I don’t suppose anyone has any Go North East examples? I believe driver duty boards are used (not vehicle). Percy Main depot would be of particular interest.

Drop in passenger numbers sees train services cut

Grand Central will reduce to a 2-train timetable from Monday, one on the Sunderland route and one on the Bradford route, each doing 2 round trips. https://www.grandcentralrail.com/coronavirus-travel-information/

Stephenson Railway Museum Tyne & Wear

There was talk a little while ago (late 90s / early 00s) that the line would be extended from it's current terminus at Percy Main, round the south of the A187 towards Hayhole Road to connect to the Royal Quays shopping centre. I recall some local transport maps even had the new route shown. It...

    Mileage Request (Austria)

I used to use the Raildar.fr site, but this seems to have been down for the last few days - I'm getting a 502 Bad Gateway message. Does anyone know if it's been switched off permanently?

    Hull Trains 802: Construction updates

I’m about 99% certain I’ve just passed a Hull Trains 802 near Amstetten in deepest Germany - No photographic evidence unfortunately as I wasn’t expecting it! I’m guessing this is set working from Dollands Moor on 1st January, upthread. Certainly not a usual sight around here!
